Violet Elizabeth Skorinko

November 19, 1928 — February 7, 2014

Violet Elizabeth Wilson Skorinko, age 85 of Mooresville, Indiana passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 7, 2014. Violet was born on November 19, 1928 in Hemphill, West Virginia, daughter of the late Ray Franklin Wilson and Virgie Lee Mitchell Wilson. She graduated from Welch High School in 1946, and attended Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana. She married Leon Skorinko in June 1949, in Anderson, Indiana. They then moved to Walworth, New York, where they raised their family, worked, and lived for nearly 40 years. At retirement, Violet and Leon moved to Abingdon, Virginia where they lived for 19 years. Violet pursued her interest in family genealogy, researching her family history and reconnecting with her extended family. In addition to her interest in genealogy, throughout her life Violet served as a volunteer in the Church of God Women’s Missionary Society and held a variety of positions in her church. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, family reunions, and cooking. Her menus and delicious meals were especially appreciated and renowned among her family and friends.

Violet was a loving wife, mother, grandparent and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Leon Skorinko. Also surviving are four siblings: Frances Wilson Wellman of Indianapolis; Geraldine Wilson Heishman and husband, Ralph Heishman of Rocky Gap, Virginia; Jack and wife, Jo Wilson of Niceville, Florida; Harold and wife, Fran Wilson of Ft. Myers, Florida; three daughters, Jo Ellen and husband, H. Stanley Jenkins of Centerville, Ohio; Cindy and husband, Dan Terrell of Freedom, Indiana; and Celia and husband, Donald Wier of Mooresville; eight grandchildren, Peter and wife, Moira Jenkins; Andrew and wife, Katie Jenkins; Ben and wife, Hannah Cox; Libby and husband, Christopher Leimer; Matthew Cox, Sarah Cox, Jonathan Carey; and Jared Wier; and two step-grandchildren Sarah and Tyler Terrell. Six great-grandchildren: James, Maggie, and Anna Jenkins; Henry Jenkins; Kodiak and Aurora Cox. Also surviving are many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, and their families. In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by sisters Loradel Wilson; Ann Wilson Coburn and husband Fred Coburn; brother Harley Wilson and wife Josephine; brother-in-law Thomas Wellman; and two infant siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30PM Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Mooresville Church of God with Pastor John Crump officiating. The family will receive friends at the Mooresville Church of God from 12:30PM until time of services on Monday. Burial will follow at White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville, Indiana.
