Virginia Clara Jett, 95, of Monrovia, died September 27, 2012, in Hendricks Regional Hospital, Danville. She was born August 3, 1917, in Monrovia, to the late Willard August and Laura Magdela (Dietz) Schrader.
Virginia graduated from Monrovia High School in 1935. She received her Associate’s Degree in Teaching from Butler University, and later attended Ball State University. She worked for over 39 years teaching at Nora Elementary, Indiana Boys School, and retired from Monroe-Gregg School Corporation in 1980. Her memberships included Delta Kappa Gamma, VFW Post 1111 Ladies Auxiliary, Monrovia Homemakers, Monrovia Alumni Association, and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. Virginia served as secretary on the Monroe-Gregg School Board from 1984-1988.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Edgar “Ike” Jett, to whom she was united in marriage in 1944; companion, Burchard Petit; brother, Louis Philip Schrader; sisters Catherine Schrader Hoffmark, Elizabeth Schrader Webb Goad.
Survivors include her brother, Willard “Bill” Schrader of Mooresville, many nieces and nephews, and cherished friends.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2012, in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, October, 1, 2012, in the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to any of the five Monrovia churches: Methodist, Christian, Nazarene, West Union Friends, Gasburg Baptist or to the Monrovia Alumni Scholarship Fund.
