Virginia Mae Roark Lyons

Virginia Mae Roark Lyons, age 85, of Mooresville died Friday, May, 2, 2014 at her home. She was born on February 5, 1929 in Waverly, Indiana to the late Harry and Dovie Roark. Virginia was a descendent of Jacob Whetzel and was the last person to be born at the Whetzel/Mackenzie Homestead.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lyons; and her sister, Mary Ellen Roberts.
Virginia graduated from Manuel High School in 1947 and married the love of her life, Robert Lyons in 1949. She cooked for the Mooresville High School Cafeteria for 10 years and for Poe’s Cafeteria for over 25 years, retiring at the age of 79. She was known for being a great cook and took pride in every meal she prepared; among her many specialties, she will be fondly remembered for her potato salad, fried chicken, pot pies and desserts. She was a lover of animals and always had her cat or dog around. In her spare time she enjoyed classic movies and was considered to be a movie buff, her favorite movie being “Gone with the Wind”. She was a devoted family woman and gained much joy from being close to her family.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark Lyons of Mooresville and Clay Lyons of Martinsville; her daughter, Lynne Mason of Mooresville; her four grandchildren, Lance Mason, Courtney Henson, Ashley Mason and Wade Mason; her 11 great -grandchildren, Ayla, Emily, Elayna and Vivian Mason; Calvin, Charles and Court Henson; Luke, Delaney, Kenzie and Kelsie Mason.

Funeral services will be held at 7PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM until service time at the funeral home on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morgan County Humane Society.
