Walter E. Collins

Walter E. Collins, 72, Mooresville, passed away May 24, 2019. Mr. Collins was born February 27, 1947, in Milan, Missouri, to the late Raymond and Luceil (Olmstead) Collins.

He proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Summit County and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He worked as a materials control and purchasing manager for a number of years at Nice Pak. Mr. Collins was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church. He was also active in the Masonic order, having been a member of the Martinsville Order of the Eastern Star, Martinsville Masonic Lodge #74, York Rite, and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He was also past director of the Morgan County Shrine and was on the Director’s Staff at the Murat Temple. Mr. Collins also enjoyed watching and participating in modified stock racing.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Collins.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Myrtle (Davis) Collins; sons, David Ayers (John Banks) of Mooresville and Douglas (Tina) Ayers of Mooresville; daughters, Joi (Gary) Barr of Woodway, Texas, Dana (James Weik) Johnson of Robinson, Texas, Toni (Rich Miles) Bearden of Tampa Florida, and Linda Rogers of New Castle; brother, Robert (Mary) Collins of Oak Grove, Missouri; sister, Cheryl Powell of Kansas City, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.

The funeral service will begin at 12 Noon, Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, with Dr. Everett Barnard officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Cremation will follow the funeral service at the Morgan County Crematory.
