Major Warren Swinford, US Army, Retired, 70, Mooresville, passed away peacefully at home September 23, 2017. Warren was born April 5, 1947, in Lerna, Illinois, to the late Jack Nelson and Helen (Warren) Swinford.
He graduated from Charleston (IL) High School in 1965 and attended Utterback’s Business College before being drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served during the Vietnam War with the Blackhorse 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and the 5th Mechanized Infantry Division. Warren later served for 21 years in the Indiana National Guard before retiring. He was a member of the Mooresville American Legion Post 103 and the Mooresville VFW Post 1111. He was an avid hunter and always remained a farmer at heart.
Warren enjoyed a long civilian career with EDS where he was employed as an IT Program Manager and Data Analyst.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Swinford.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Blacklidge) Swinford, to whom he was united in marriage on November 29, 1969; children, Amy Streff (Mark Leuthauser) of St. Louis and Chad Swinford (Melissa) of Mooresville; brother, Steven Swinford (Jody) of Indianapolis; sister, Myra Lyon (Dan) of Plainfield; grandchildren, Lauren and Will; Taylor, Logan, Rylee, Emery, Madigan, Annabelle, Jack, and Eloise.
Friends and family will gather on Friday, September 29, 2017, 4 to 8 p.m., in the chapel at
Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017, 10 to 11 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in White Lick Cemetery.
