Wayne Archer, 83 of Waverly, passed away Wednesday March 23, 2016 in Greenwood. He was born July 10, 1932 in Martin County to the late Stanford Earl and Zelda M. (Howell) Archer. On December 29, 1956 Wayne was united in marriage to his loving wife, Virginia Estelene (Roach) Archer; she survives.
He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War; discharged in 1955. He worked in Skill Trade at the Allison Division of General Motors for many years before he retired. Wayne was a faithful member of the Waverly United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years and was an active member of the Boy Scouts for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, but mostly enjoyed spending time at home with his family. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Wayne will be missed by his loving family, friends and colleagues.
Along with his wife, other survivors include his three children, David W. (Carol) Archer of Bloomington, Steven D. (Mae) Archer of New Whiteland and Angela K. Naue of Mooresville; his brother, Grover F. (Janice) Archer of Anderson; 12 grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Matthew, Angel, Jeffery, Jeremy, Jessica, Katie, Alexis, Liam, Jacob and Rebekah and four great grandchildren.
Wayne was also preceded in death by his sister, Marlene Simons.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Monday, March 28 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Rev. Bill VanHorn will conduct the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery, Waverly.
