William Allen

Bill never met a stranger. He was loved by so many people, and he loved them back. He enjoyed life to its fullest until his untimely death at 65 on February 8, 2014. He loved motorcycle riding, skiing, and softball. He is survived by his wife and best friend Nancy, daughter Nikki, 3 wonderful grandchildren, his family in-law the Keatons, 3 loving dogs, and many, many friends. He is joining his parents and son Dustin. There are several celebrations of life planned with his many, different groups of friends in Indiana and one in South Lake Tahoe, California where he married Nancy skiing at Heavenly Valley. He was born in Amarillo, Texas but lived most of his life in and around Indianapolis. He attended Howe High School and was the quarterback of his football team. He rode motorcycles all over the country with his parents from the time that he was a little boy. He learned to ski at Long Mountain and taught his wife and children to ski at Nashville Alps/Ski World, all in Nashville, Indiana and skied with his wife and friends at resorts from New Hampshire to California. He started playing softball with his friends in Cumberland, Indiana and became instrumental in playing, managing, and developing softball in the Midwest. He was affectionately known as Coachie by many of his players. His teams included men's ACs, Hooters/One Cryo, and Upper Deck; coed EZ GO, and women's TVM, and he played for many other teams. At his favorite park, Metro Stadium, he was introduced to senior softball and started his own team, INDY FOG. They traveled to tournaments from Florida to California. He led his team to championships including the 2004 Winter World in Las Vegas, 2005 Eastern National in Lansing, and 2005 World in Phoenix. He coached one of the All Star teams in 2004 - 2006 at World tournaments in Plano, Texas and Dalton, Georgia and was undefeated in those. His love of senior softball caused him to want a tournament in his own city, and through his efforts, the Brickyard was started in 2000 and is today one of the most successful senior tournaments in the Midwest. He started and ended his career as a motorcycle mechanic and spent many years as a cable technician and softball park groundskeeper.
