William Edward Bennett Jr., 71, of Mooresville, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, July 30, 2023 while in the care of Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. Eddie or Bill, as most knew him, was born on September 28, 1951 in Shelbyville, Indiana to the late William Edward Bennett and Barbara (Bowlus) Bennett.
He graduated from Jennings County High School in North Vernon with the class of 1970. The following year he married the love of his life, Diane Leigh Lynch, on March 19, 1971. They have enjoyed over 52 years of marriage. William retired after 34 years of service from Perry Township Schools where he worked as a mechanic and transportation supervisor. He also had worked as a mechanic for MacAllister Machinery in Indianapolis.
William enjoyed being a licensed HAM radio operator with the call sign of KG9DR. He also had a love for aviation, was a former recreational pilot, and enjoyed flying RC model airplanes. Additionally, he was a model train enthusiast. While raising his family, he greatly enjoyed the time they spent boating on Lake Monroe.
He leaves behind his loving family who will miss him greatly including his wife, Diane Bennett of Mooresville; son, Brian Bennett of Ofallon, IL; daughter, Laura (husband, Brian) Hardin of Plainfield; brother, Vaugh Bennett of San Francisco, CA; sisters, Mary Smith of North Vernon, Kathy (husband, Jason) Byalick of Portugal, and Dawn (husband, Timothy) Sinkes of Pheonix, AZ; and grandchildren, Jarrett Hardin of Plainfield and Greyson Hardin of Plainfield.
Family and friends are invited to William’s Life Celebration® Visitation and a Sharing of Memories Service will be held at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service and Crematory in Mooresville. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm and the Sharing of Memories Service will follow beginning at 12:30 pm. The family will allow opportunity for family and friends to share memories during the service. William’s earthly remains have been cremated.
