William D. Delp

July 14, 1948 — February 7, 2021

William D. Delp, 72, passed away peacefully at home February 7, 2021, after a courageous, four-year battle with cancer. Bill was born July 14, 1948, to the late Estine and Ada (York) Delp.

He graduated from Cascade High School in 1966 and married Denise (Miller) Delp in 1969. Bill worked for the United States Postal Service for 34 years before retiring. A longtime and faithful member of Mt. Gilead Church, Bill’s faith was very important to him. He was grateful for his own salvation and coming to know Christ. Bill enjoyed fishing, golfing, collecting old toys, and gardening. One of his greatest gifts that he shared often was his delightful sense of humor. Bill loved to make people laugh, and it was that gift that first drew Denise to Bill, solidifying a 51 year union. In addition to his faith, Bill’s love and devotion for his family was also very strong. He will be fondly remembered by his loved ones and many friends for his compassion for others.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Scotty and brothers, Everett and Bob.

Survivors include his wife, Denise; children, David Delp and Joy (Mark) Henderson; brothers, Donald and Jim (Marilyn) Delp; sisters, Shirley Ross, Irene Schoening, Judy (Frank) Shields, Betty Sutton, Mary (Frank) Delp, Fay (Perry) Grounds.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 18, 2021, 12 – 2 p.m., at Mt. Gilead Church, with a memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. Pastors Jeff Faull and Terry Crist will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Humane Society of Morgan County, or to the church’s building fund.
