William L. McCoy, 73, Mooresville, passed away peacefully at home August 21, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones. Bill was born May 16, 1944, in Washington, to the late Lester and Elizabeth (Schenkel) McCoy.
He graduated from Washington High School in 1962 and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He attended Indiana University and earned a degree in engineering from Purdue University. Bill worked as an engineer for Naval Avionics, the Allison Division of General Motors and retired from Rolls Royce. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mooresville. Bill had an appreciation for agriculture and managed the family farm. He also enjoyed traveling and enjoyed coaching youth sports as his sons were growing up. Above all, Bill was a strong family man who will be fondly remembered for his wisdom and care for his loved ones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Tim McCoy, M.D.
Survivors include his wife, Lois (Ridge) McCoy, to whom he was united in marriage July 24, 1971; sons, Bryan McCoy, Benjamin McCoy (Lucie Sidibe) of Poway, California; Mark McCoy of Omaha, Nebraska; two granddaughters, Maxwelle and Morgan McCoy.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017, 5 to 8 p.m., in the chapel at
Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 25, 2017, in the First United Methodist Church, 900 N. Indianapolis Road, Mooresville. The committal will follow at 2 p.m., in the Ellettsville Presbyterian Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
