Wilma J. Oxford

Wilma J. Oxford, 85, Monrovia, died October 19, 2011, in the Yellow Rose Hospice Unit at Methodist Hospice. Mrs. Oxford was born July 24, 1926, in Reno County, Kansas, to the late William Henry and Clara (Wagerle) Case.

Prior to raising her seven children, she worked as a secretary for the Boy Scouts of America and Cessna Aircraft. Mrs. Oxford was a 50+ year member of the Mooresville First Christian Church, where she also served as the first female deacon. She was also a longtime member of the Christian Women's Fellowship and taught Bible Study for many years. Always an active and giving mother, Mrs. Oxford was a Camp Fire Girls Leader. She was a very talented seamstress, enjoyed knitting, and was an excellent cook. Mrs. Oxford was a professional cake decorator for many years and made many wedding cakes. In addition, she loved the outdoors and gardening, growing lots of beautiful flowers and a bountiful garden.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ralph Oxford and siblings, Dean, Dale, and Wanda Case.

Survivors include her children, Karen Oxford of Rockville, Karla Schilling (Frank) of Avon, Rajeana Costin-Poore (Dan) of Tennessee, Layne Oxford of Camby, Lonnie Oxford (Betty) of Greenwood, Kevin Oxford (Denise) of Cloverdale, and Valisa Harlan (Bob) of Granger; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011, at Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Friends are invited to greet the family following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Churches in Mission, 27 South Indiana Street, Mooresville, IN 46158.
