Wilma Jean Hastings

Wilma Jean (Kappel) Hastings, 81, Mooresville, passed away September 5, 2019. Mrs. Hastings was born February 14, 1938, in Bridgeport, to the late William and Nora (Fulks) Kappel. She married James Macon Hastings on February 19, 1960, and he preceded her in death on April 6, 2012.

Wilma graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1956 and was proud to have stayed in touch with many classmates through the years. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was an excellent cook. She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority and was an accomplished bowler. Wilma and Jim also made many friends through the years clogging. She had quite the green thumb – growing beautiful flowers and a bountiful garden that she would can for family and friends. Wilma’s kind and generous spirit will be forever cherished by a loving family and many friends.

Wilma’s life became even more complete when her granddaughters, Rachel and Jennifer, were born in 1992 and 1996 respectively. Many great memories were created that often involved shopping, traveling, sightseeing, and swim parties in Wilma’s backyard. She taught the girls how to bake and play the piano too. Wilma simply knew the importance of time and how valuable that time was to be spent with the girls. She was an incredible grandma and will always be remembered.

In addition to her parents and her beloved Jim, she was also preceded in death by siblings, Nathaniel Kappel, Thelma Knopp, William Kappel and Pauline Record.

Survivors include one son, James M. Hastings (Tracy); one daughter, Lene Davis; brothers, Donald and Richard Kappel; sister, Nora Kelly; two cherished granddaughters, Rachel Lynn Hastings and Jennifer Lynn Hastings.

The funeral service will begin at 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2019, in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. Friends are invited to visit prior to the service from 5 p.m. A private entombment will take place on Wednesday morning at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
