Clarissa Amanda (Fields) Whitney, 99 ½, lifelong Morgan County resident, passed away December 5, 2018. Mrs. Whitney was born June 4, 1919, on Henderson Ford Road in Morgan County, to the late Fred William and Katholena Veva (Rynerson ) Fields.

Clarissa graduated from Martinsville High School in 1937. A hard working lady, she was employed at D.R. Sturgeons Restaurant in Brooklyn, as the manager of the paint department at G.C. Murphy in downtown Indianapolis, and retired from the shipping department at Link Belt after 30 years of employment. Always one to stay busy, Clarissa was a 50+ year member of the Brooklyn Order of the Eastern Star and also worked with Jobs Daughters for many years. She was a member and past president of Sunny Circle Extension Homemakers. She served as the Superintendent of Horticulture Department at the Morgan County Fair for ten years. A longtime member of the Brooklyn Christian Church, Clarissa also was past deaconess and served as the church’s financial secretary. She also was the sexton of the Brooklyn Cemetery for many years, just recently passing the responsibility to her daughter. Clarissa enjoyed crocheting, quilting, scrapbooking, and loved to travel. She not only had a long life, but a very full one that will provide cherished memories for her loving family and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren T. “Tom” Whitney; brother, Russell William “Bud” Fields.

Survivors include her children, Patricia (John) Gregory of Mooresville and Leonard T. “Tom Shover of Mooresville; grandchildren, John Robert Gregory, Jr., Kiley Katholeen Jackson, Jeremy Ryan Gregory, Michael Scott Shover, Todd Alan Shover, and Kelly Ann Mitchell; 14 great grandchildren; two great great (and one on the way) grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Sunday, December 9, 2018, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Brooklyn Cemetery.
