Betty Lea (Morris) McCreary

89, of Mooresville, passed away on June 16, 2018 at St Francis Hospital in Mooresville. Betty was born on January 19, 1929 in Bedford County, PA to the late Jacob E. and Elmira (Smith) Morris.

Her mother died when she was 10, so she was raised by her father, grandmother and older siblings. She was one of twelve children that have always been really close. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings; Meryl, Melvin, Charles, Homer, Alvie, Leonard, Elmer, Minnie, Evelyn and Walter.

She married Harvey V. McCreary on March 1, 1946 and were married 58 years until his passing in 2004. They started their married life in MannsChoice, PA and had four children. She worked for a small factory making wood shoe shine boxes, which she came home many days with taped fingers due to all of the hand sanding of the boxes.

She attended the Reformed Church in MannsChoice where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She and Harvey then relocated to Washington, PA in June of 1965 due to a new job for Harvey. They lived there four years, until moving to Mooresville in 1969. She then worked for 20 years at Gray Brothers Cafeteria, before retiring in 1992 at the age of 63. She was also a member of the Eternal Life Baptist Church in Mooresville. It was her greatest joy to be a mother, grandmother and great grandmother who would always make sure she had a dish filled with candy for the grandkids when they visited.

Left to cherish her memory is her children; Connie (Donald) Edwards, Vicki Day, Pam (Alfred) Aguirre and Jeff (Deanna) McCreary, sister; Beda Rose, grandchildren; Billy, Todd, Amy, Dwayne, Mariah, Kayla, Brent, great grandchildren; Tyler, Bailey, Jacob, Landon, Ella, Kaci, Morgan, Mia, Mackenzie and Bowen.

Visitation will be held Sunday from1- 2pm at Carlisle- Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with a memorial service at 2pm at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to the Eternal Life Church.

  1. To my cousins, sorry for your loss, I know that aunt Betty will be missed by a lot of you but remember that she will always be in your heart and soul. She may be gone but she will never be forgotten. I know I didn’t get to know her like the rest of her brothers and sister, but still loved her and missed see her after you all moved away. You will always be part of the Morris family and you are always welcomed to the family reunion back here in pa. This is why is was restarted 28 yrs ago.
