Lauretta Kurek
August 23, 1924 ~ September 20, 2016
Lauretta Fabianski Kurek, 92, Monrovia, passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2016. Mrs. Kurek was born August 23, 1924, in Chicago, to the late Francis “Frank” and Frances (Jezierny) Fabianski.
Lauretta graduated from Immaculata High School in Chicago and furthered her education at DePaul taking secretarial courses. She was a proud homemaker and the consummate wife, mother, and grandmother. Most recently, she was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Mooresville and had also been a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Indianapolis and St. Michael Catholic Church in Hicksville, Ohio. She and her husband, Edwin, were active in CFM, the Christian Family Movement through the years. She was an accomplished pianist and a phenomenal cook, “feeding generations” through the years. They never knew a stranger, and their door was always open. Lauretta will be fondly remembered by a loving and caring family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings and two infant children, John and Mary.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Edwin J. Kurek, to whom she was united in marriage January 5, 1946; sons, Robert J. Kurek (Anne) of Maine, Paul Kurek (Marilyn) of Marion, Indiana, James Kurek (Linda) of Dayton, Ohio; daughters, Kathryn Kluge (Dan) of Minnesota, Suzanne Merrell (Tim) of Whiteland, and Patricia Miller (Les) of Monrovia; one brother, Frank Fabianski, Jr. of Chicago; 22 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren.
Friends and family will gather on Saturday, September 24, 2016, 10 a.m. until 12 Noon in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1200 N. Indiana Street, Mooresville. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Charity. I am so sorry I won’t be able to attend on Saturday as out of town. She was a very special lady always trying to make everyone feel so very special. Always with a smile on her face.
