Steven L. Swallow
June 1, 1945 ~ June 11, 2016
Steven L. Swallow, 71, Mooresville, passed away suddenly June 11, 2016, during his semi-annual trip to Friendship, Indiana. Steve was born June 1, 1945, in Indianapolis, to the late William and Helen (Phillips) Swallow.
He graduated from Southport High School in 1964 and continued his education to become a master electrician. He was the owner and operator of Spectrum Electric for more than twenty years. Steve was the ultimate outdoorsman, hunting everything from mushrooms to gold to animals in season. He also loved to fish. A longtime member of the NRA and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, he was a National Champion Muzzle Loader and also taught many scouts how to shoot through the years. An excellent cook, Steve loved to cook for family and friends. He was known for excellent barbeque sauce, jams, lasagna, and pies.
Always generous with his time, Steve was an accomplished handy man who could oftentimes be found fixing something for one of his daughters. He enjoyed playing cards - bridge and cribbage. He loved college sports and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandchildren in their various sporting events. Steve volunteered with Meals on Wheels and also liked a good book. An avid race fan, he had not missed an Indy 500 race in over 30 years. Above all, Steve will be remembered for his love for family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be fondly remembered.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Adams) Swallow, to whom he was united in marriage December 18, 1965; daugthers, Stacy Opp of Mooresville, Marcy Huntwork (Brad) of Terre Haute, Abby Nagy (Brian) of Plainfield; sister, Andrea Keech (Richard) of Indianapolis, and William R. Swallow (Carole) of Bloomington; grandchildren, William Opp, Emily Huntwork, Sam Huntwork, Jack Nagy, and Ben Nagy.
Friends and family will gather on Saturday, June 18, 2016, 4 to 6 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Muzzle Loaders Rifle Association Youth Range, PO Box 67, Friendship, Indiana 47021. This is sad to hear. May your good memories give you comfort. –Nina Langley
The Swallow family were my neighbors for over 30 years. Steve and Nancy were basically my surrogate parents. I loved all the crazy things Steve would do like pan for gold in the backyard, practice hatchet throwing, and make his own bullets. I was completely fascinated with his stuffed squirrel and deer head as a kid along with his trips to hunt and fish in Canada. I could always count on him for hunting and fishing advice as well as needing to borrow some sort of tool at least once a week, lol! He was the Mountain Man Next Door and I admired him for it. The story of my life was made more interesting by his presence in it. He was quite the character and I will not forget him easily. He probably never knew the impression he made on me, but we were always too busy talking about important outdoors stuff to have that mushy conversation 🙂 I’m sad that he’s not with us anymore, but I’m glad he was with friends doing what he loved when his number came up. Most of us won’t get to go out that way. I will not say RIP because I don’t think that’s what he’d want. Instead I raise a toast and say thank you for the memories Steve, you were one of a kind! Love, light, and healing to Nancy, Stacy, Marcy, Abby, their significant others, and Steve’s grandchildren. We are ask here for you. ♡~L

Dear sweet Nancy! I am so very sorry for the sudden loss of Steve. It is like going down the highway 100 miles an hour and then hitting a wall….nothing is ever the same.
