Shirley G. Carter, 70 of Mooresville passed away January 31, 2016 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Mooresville. She was born February 3, 1945 in St. Charles, Virginia to the late Fred and Anna Ruth (Robinson) Rutherford. On September 21, 1963 Shirley was united in marriage to her loving husband, Earl Carter; he survives.

Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Charles, Virginia. A homemaker for most of her life, she also enjoyed babysitting many children in and around Mooresville. In her later years, she enjoyed babysitting for her two grandchildren. A loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother she will missed by her family and friends.

Along with her parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Rutherford.

Other survivors include her two sons, Earl Carter, Jr. of Mooresville and George Carter (Wife: Angie) of Mooresville; her brother, Donald Gene Rutherford of Virginia; five sisters, Betty Sue Young, Phyllis Jane Wells, Linda Kay Wilson, Nancy Louise Reynolds and Patty Bryson all of Virginia and her two grandchildren, Joey Carter and Autumn Carter.

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3 in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Mooresville Cemetery.
