Dear Bob and family, I cannot begin to express what an honor and privilege it was to know Shirley. She was always smiling, never complained and her stories of your travels together were so entertaining. I am so very saddened and know she will be greatly missed. She will always be fondly remembered by everyone here. Sue Rivers & St. Vincent Gynecologic Oncology staff
Dear Sister Shirley, I will always love you. I will never forget how we shared a bedroom in the attic of our apartment over our father’s store in Bremen. We would talk long into the night and draw pictures on the wall. Remember the night he scared us after we were to be asleep by creeping up the pull down stairway in the dark and saying,’Now it’s my turn to draw.’ I am so thankful that you helped me move one of our cars to Mishawaka in 2012 because it helped us have another great slumber party. We knew how to laugh together didn’t we. Thanks for going to Colorado for our son’s wedding. We had such a good time there. We have many great memories. Your younger sister by 2 and 1/2 years! Yes I am younger and I will always miss you. Until we meet again. I love you sis. Ruth Ann
I had the great pleasure of working with Shirley when she was one of our volunteers in the Block Family Library at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. I am so deeply saddened at her passing. To say that she was pure delight to work with is a serious understatement and when Shirley and her partner in crime, Karen Yeager, were together with us we had a blast! I will miss her warmth, her wit, her courage, her smile, her wonderful stories of all her travels, and her competence and the depth of her caring for our patients and their families. We were blessed to have her as a co-worker. May she rest in peace with Almighty God and may God pour out his tender mercies and loving kindnesses on her family and friends.
Mrs. France was a big part of my life when i was at Newby in fisrt grade and on….she helped me alot with my parents going thru a divorce. She spent alot of time with me after school at her house making cookies with me and helping me with understanding school and what my parents divorce ment and would effect me…She was an amazing teacher and friend to me and my dad… Heaven gained a wonderful angel. My dad passed away this past February and I know he will be greeting her with open arms and a smile since she did so much for him with me.
Shirley, Bob and their two children were faithful members of the old First United Methodist Church when my ex-husband, Charles Gipson, was pastor there. She touched many young children during the years she taught school. I have fond memories of the family and send my deepest sympathy during this period of grief. Mrs.Lois Gipson Ligocki
Our fathers were friends in school and even dated some of the same young girls many years ago. Our dads remained friends through the years, became licensed pilots and after each married they even traveled together many times piloting a small private airplane or by car to visit other relatives and friends. All were members of Salem EUB Church in Bremen (now Salem Methodist). Business and farming kept them both busy raising a family. Shirley and I were friends from early age in church Youth Fellowship, HS Band, Youth Camping at Syracuse, IN., We both married after college and kept in contact though not close, would write and update each other at Christmas and re-connect. Other siblings of both of us were special friends, as well, over the years. To Shirley’s husband and family I want all to know that Shirley was very much loved and was a wonderful friend and teacher of many. Her smile will be missed…My deepest sympathy to all her family.
