Barbara Doehr

Barbara Doehr, age 84, passed away on July 24th, 2015 in Mooresville, Indiana.

Barbara enjoyed a long and fulfilling life, starting with her career in nursing. She worked for over 20 years in nursing homes, rising to night supervisor. She developed many lifelong friendships along the way, including her bowling team, members of a neighborhood card club, her sorority Beta Sigma Phi, her “Ya-Ya Sisterhood”, and co-workers. She also maintained close relationships with many of her relatives and in-laws over the years.

One of Barbara’s joys was spending time at the family cabin in northern Minnesota, where the family went nearly every weekend while her children were growing up. Favorite activities included cooking, after-dinner canoe paddling with her husband, and slow circuits of the shoreline in the pontoon boat.

Barbara had a wonderful sense of humor, which was on display for events and work or with family and often included her poetry. She never took herself too seriously and taught her children that lesson well. She also enjoyed card games such as cribbage and took up bingo in her later years in senior living. She was a deeply caring person, which was reflected in her relationships with co-workers, residents, and their families while she was working in a nursing home. It also gave her the perspective that made her a popular resident once she moved into a nursing care facility herself, as she understood things from the staff side as well. She was Resident Council president for several years as well as on the food committee, resulting in several new menu items not often seen in extended care nursing facilities such as crme brle.

She is survived by her sons Dane Doehr of Indianapolis, IN and Brett Doehr of Plymouth, MN; her daughters Lisa Riedl (George) of North Aurora, IL and Linda Cannon (Mark) of Mooresville, IN; and her grandchildren Ryan Cannon, Thomas Cannon, and Clara Riedl. She was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Mabel Bockoven, her husband of 49 years Verdain Doehr, and her sister Marilyn Hyma. She passed with family at her side, knowing the love of an extended family and wonderful friends.

Family and friends will gather on Monday, July 27th, 2015 from 2 to 4pm at Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. Funeral service will begin at 4:00pm. 1. Hi Lisa, Linda, Dane and Brett, I was so surprised to read of Barb’s passing in the paper this am. We were just talking about her at Marj Kuhl’s funeral a couple weeks ago. I’m not sure if you knew that Marj had died. No one had talked with your Mom or knew how she presently was doing. You know, I always had a good time with your Mom. She was my special head nurse at PH and we had a good working relationship. I later enjoyed visiting with your Mom and Dad at PCOTW during their later years.. Everyone looked for her decorated cane, which changed with the seasons! May you share many good memories of your Mom and treasure her in your heart Our prayers for God’s love to surround all of you during this sad time. Peace and Love, Julie and Burt Nygren

  2. Dear Dane,Brett,Lisa and Linda, Very sorry and sad to read about your mother’s passing. She was always so happy and jolly. Bob has good memories of them as kids and at family birthday dinners. Her babysitting him and him tying her up. Your mom and dad loved each other so much and now they can be together again. She is at peace and we are thinking of all of you. The Robert Miller Family

  3. II am at a lost for words . Barb meant so much to me . I will miss her . I am so thankful she was a part of my life . My thoughts and prayers are with you . Love always Stacey W.

  4. Dear Lisa, Linda, Dane and Brett, Sorry to hear about the passing of your Mother. She and your Dad were great neighbors and always helpful and tolerant of our pets and noisy kids. She had a good long life and we will all miss her. Hope this finds you all well and she will be in our prayers. Mike Scott

  5. I met this wonderful lady when working at Millers in Mooresville. She has always been a very special person to me and it was hard to hear of her passing. I know she is happy now and out of pain walking with her wonderful husband. Barb was so strong and she amazed me daily on how sharp minded she was. I loved hearing stories of her nursing days. I will miss you!! Charissa

  6. When my mother, Joyce Ringer moved into Miller’s Assisted Living she would eat with Barb, Mickie and Paul each day. I had the opportunity to join them many times during meals and it was always so much fun. Lots of laughter and good times. Barb was such a nice lady and I was sorry to hear of her passing. Sadly, all four of these people are now gone. Debbie (Ringer) Cornelius
