Dorothy Jane Smith

Dorothy J. Smith, age 95, of Bloomington, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014. Born February 20, 1919 in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Leroy S. and Mary Alma “Mayme” (Sciscoe) Waterford. Her husband, James Smith; sisters: Mary Crum, Helen Deckard, and Beulah Cazee; brothers: Robert, John and Howard Waterford; and one granddaughter, Monica Jo also preceded her in death.
Dorothy retired from RCA after 35 years of faithful service. She was a 65 year member of Clear Creek Christian Church where she enjoyed Sunday School and the quilting group. She was an avid IU football and basketball fan and enjoyed going to and supporting Bloomington South sports.
Survivors include her son, Philip V. Smith of Bloomington; her daughter, Vonda (Dave) Hittle of Mishawaka; her sister, Joan (Dwight) Snoddy of Bloomington; sister in laws, Georgia Waterford and Joan Fleetwood both of Bloomington; nine grandchildren: Scott, Lorinda, Amy, Lucinda, Joe, Patrick, Larissa, Timothy and Jimmy; and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clear Creek Christian Church with Rev. Glenn Hughes officiating. Burial will be at Cloverhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg. Friends may call Friday, October 24, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street, Bloomington.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or Clear Creek Christian Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville.
