Sarah E. Deaton

79, of Mooresville, passed away on May 19, 2023 at home, surrounded by her family. Sarah was born on January 11, 1944 in Tompkinsville, Kentucky to the late Reed Conkin and Annie (Marshall) Conkin.

Sarah worked for Western Electric for many years, before retiring when the plant closed. After retirement, she went back to work for Harman Motive in Martinsville. Faith and family were the cornerstones of Sarah’s life. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren every chance she could. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and crafts. She was also a long-time member of the Free Methodist Church in Mooresville, where she was active in the Ladies Circle and taught Children’s Church. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who was the best cook ever!

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Mitchell Conkin and a sister Nannie Ruth Pogue.

She is survived by her husband Donald Deaton; children Don (Kim) Deaton, Jr., Barry (Elizabeth) Combs, Dawn Deaton, Marla (Steven Everidge) Deaton; grandchildren Leslie McGowen, Kelsie Kirchner, Trey Deaton, Drew Deaton, Kasey Sutton, Cody Combs, Ryan Miller, Jacob Hug, Benjamin Neal, Karlie Fluke, and 5 great grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather for Sarah’s Life Celebration® visitation on Tuesday, May 23rd from 4-8pm at the Mooresville Free Methodist Church, 20 Star Lane, Mooresville, IN, with additional visitation on Wednesday May 24th from 12noon until the services beginning at 2:00pm in the church. Burial will follow the services in White Lick Cemetery.

  1. Sara was a lovely lady, you couldn’t help but love her. Always so helpful and ready to pitch in and work. I remember sharing Sundays with her in Jr church and she was so patient. Creative in ways I never thought of and I was always pretty crafty myself. She never ceased to amaze me with her gentleness and kind ways. She will be dearly missed! With Much Love,

  7. I first met Sarah at Harmon Motive years ago and still to this day, we laugh at the memories we made there. Over the years, my children and I, have had the pleasure of knowing her sweet daughter, Marla. They hold a special place in my heart. God bless you all .
