Zachariah Glenn Savage

Zachariah Glenn Savage, 30, Spencer, passed away on August 5, 2023, from injuries sustained in a tragic car accident.  Zach was born June 15, 1993, in Indianapolis, to Brenda (Tuttle) Brown and Gary W. Savage.  Zach was engaged to be married to the love of his life, Taylor Downing, this coming October 26.

Zach graduated from Owen Valley High School.  A talented and competitive athlete, Zach excelled in basketball, football, baseball, golf – if it was a sport, he could play it.  He worked in construction for Keystone in Bloomington and had also worked in the tinting and car wrap trade.  Because of his strong desire to help others, he followed his dream of becoming a firefighter and EMT and was a part of the Clay Township Owen County Fire Company for the past three years.  Zach recently had completed all requirements to fulfill his dream of becoming a full-time firefighter.

Zach attended Emmanuel Church in Greenwood.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing guitar, and was a strong competitor in Beer Olympics.  He was a wonderful dad to his son, Carter, and coached his basketball and baseball teams.  He was a captivating communicator who loved big, and enjoyed every opportunity to be with his family.  Zach will be fondly remembered for his huge heart, immense generosity, and passion for all things he believed in.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William F. Tuttle; and paternal grandparents, Glenn L. and Margaret A. Savage.

Survivors include his fiancé, Taylor Downing; mother, Brenda Brown; father, Gary Savage; children, Carter, Pieper, Stevie, and Kollyns; brothers, Jacob Savage and Travis Brown; sisters, Melissa (Dusty) Venable and Bristi (Justin) Moore; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Zach’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be Wednesday, August 9, 2023, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 E. Guestbook

  1. We are so very sorry for your loss. Zach was a wonderful young man and will be missed by all he knew. May he rest with the Angels. Thoughts and Prayers for you all 🙏🏻

  2. Photo was recently taken on May 13th, Zach and cousins helping gma.
Our hearts hurt for all his loved ones.
He will always be remembered as a kind, loving, generous, caring person.

  3. I am so very sorry and saddened by this news. Zach was in my EMT class and was always such a joy and delight. All he talked about were his kids. He was a very devoted and loving father and just a really good and kind person. He texted me just a few weeks ago and told me he passed his NREMT and he was so happy about it. I was so happy for him because I knew how bad he wanted it. Such a tragic loss of one of the brightest upcoming stars I have ever had the privilege of knowing. The world was a better place with Zach in it. I will miss not hearing from him from time to time.

  4. My extreme heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Zach. May his kind hearted actions, throughout his life, be absorbed by all through these and future difficult times. Remember, Zach will guide you. God speed my friend. I will miss you.

  5. Sam, Jessica, Leeann, Alanna has purchased Angels In the Garden for Zachariah Savage

  6. My sincere condolences and sympathy go out to each and every one of Zach’s family members. Although I had only met Zach a couple times, I knew his two sisters and what a huge loving family they all are. Zach, I know you will be greatly missed by all, but from my Thin Red Line family to yours I want to thank you for your service and willingness to sacrifice it all for the safety and protection of others. God Speed Brother, may you rest in peace, and we will take it from here in your honor.

  7. Brenda—my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I can’t imagine the heartbreak you all are feeling. God be with you as you go through this very difficult time. Very sincerely, Shirley Corry
