Kenneth D. Halcomb

November 3, 1938 ~ December 15, 2023
Kenneth D. “Kenny” Halcomb, 85, longtime Mooresville resident and business owner passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2023. Kenny was born one of nine children on November 3, 1938, in Harlan, Kentucky, to the late Dewey and Ethel (Deckard) Halcomb.
Kenny attended high school in Kentucky before moving to Indiana to become a butcher at the age of sixteen. Early on, he worked at various butcher shops before opening Mooresville Meat Packing, which eventually became Kenny’s Fine Meats. A butcher for over 68 years, Kenny was a true craftsman in his trade. Strongly devoted to his work and his beloved customers, he continued to work until his recent terminal illness diagnosis. Kenny’s generosity was one of his strong character traits that made him a very likable and honorable man. He fed many who could not afford to feed themselves through the years.
He was an avid golfer, making many friends through a sport he genuinely loved. He was also passionate about any game of chance. Kenny enjoyed playing all kinds of card games, playing the lottery, and loved to scratch off those winning numbers. He was always particular about his appearance and dressed nicely. Kenny was also strongly devoted to his family and always enjoyed telling about his grandchildren’s latest sporting accomplishments. Kenny Halcomb left the world a much better place and will be fondly remembered by his loving family and many friends.

Kenny and I have played a lot of golf together. Most of the time I would beat him especially if the greens were elevated and needed high shots to get close to the pins. One time about 10 years ago Kenny took me to his favorite local course, Eagle Pines and showed me how “his game”, hitting low shots in front of the greens and let them roll up to a few feet from the pin. That day, Kenny shot a few strokes over par and I had a low 80’s score from hitting the greens in the air and rolling off the back edge, all day.
Kenny was humble in victory and we both enjoyed the competition and just getting to spend the day together. I will always remember what an amazing brother-in-law is was.
I was shocked to see this. I was just thinking about him the other day when I put flowers out at my grandpas grave. Kenny and my grandpa had a lot of stories throughout their lives as he would butler my grandpas livestock when he was alive. This world will not be the same without his amazing smile and happy go lucky charm..
American Legion post 103 send our condolences, he always supported us, and even celebrated a birthday in our Pavilion.

I was in there the meat market around 4 months or so ago he was there he didn’t mention a word I’m sorry to hear this I’ve spent alot time with Kenny and had alot of good times with this great man god bless
Kenny was one of the nicest, most generous people I’ve known. He was a very hard worker but was always willing to stop and chat for a bit. I credit my love of brisket to him. I didn’t grow up in a “brisket family” and even into my 50s had never cooked one. One day I finally had the bright idea to ask the expert, Kenny, what his favorite cut of beef was and he said “brisket”. I then asked him how he cooked it. I bought one and cooked it the way he said and have been buying them ever since. That was years ago. He was one of the bright stars in the Mooresville constellation.
