Sheree Lynn Custis

Sheree Lynn Custis, 66, of Greencastle, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at home with her husband by her side. She was born in Greencastle on September 9, 1957, to the late Lloyd and Wanda (Buis) Grimes. Sheree graduated from Greencastle High School in 1975. She married the love of her life, Jack Custis, on October 21, 1983. Sheree worked for DePauw School of Music as the Faculty Secretary and Assistant to the Associate Dean for 14 years, before retiring in 2017. During her time at DePauw, she enjoyed being a member of the knitting club. Sheree was a longtime member of Greencastle Christian Church, actively participating in Bible Study and Grow Group.
Sheree loved having her toes in the sand. She and Jack lived in Orlando, Florida for 10 years before ultimately deciding to move their family back to Indiana. She enjoyed swimming, playing euchre, watching Hallmark, and never missed a chance to go shopping. Above all, Sheree loved spending time and playing with her grandchildren. Sheree was loved by all who came in contact with her. Her bright spirit would put a smile on your face. Her contagious laugh will be greatly missed by all her family.
In addition to her parents, Sheree is preceded in death by her daughter, Melinda Bjorgaard; and brother, Randy Grimes. Survivors include her loving husband of 40 years, Jack Custis; sons, Jack Custis, Jr., Brandon Tyler Custis; daughters, Shawn-Teil Lemmink, Rachel (Andrew) McGranahan, Tara (Aaron) McCammack; sisters, Sandy (Greg) Smith, Teresa Bruce; grandchildren, Paxton, Jaxson, Ezra, Skyler, Shelby, Gabe, Taylor, Tristan; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, February 17th from 4:00P.M. to 6:00P.M in the sanctuary at Greencastle Christian Church, 620 Primrose Lane, Greencastle, Indiana 46135. Sheree’s Life Celebration® Service will begin at 6:00P.M. Memorial contributions may be made in Sheree’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association, envelopes will be available at the church. Jack and fam. We so love y’all and are both rejoicing with you and sitting shiva with you. We mourn. We laugh at the fun times and memories. God has blessed us with these memories.
I spent 12 years in the School of Music at DePauw with Sheree. I enjoyed our many conversations, coffee and laughter we shared together across the counter at Café Allegro. Jack and Sheree are special friends…..you just don’t get more genuine people than the Custis family.

Jack and family, Barbara and I are heartbroken. Never was their a person with a bigger heart, as genuine a smile and laugh, nor a presence who radiated patience, love, and kindness as Sheree. We are sorry for your loss (indeed, our loss, for all of us privileged to have served with her in the School of Music at DePauw), but we are grateful that she no longer suffers. Dear Jack, Rachel, and JJ,
We so wish we could be there to hold you in our arms as we hold you in our hearts! We will be thinking of you tomorrow and always. I think I will miss Sheree’s laugh and the twinkle in her eye that accompanied it. So many good times together that no distance will ever be able to compromise.

What a very sweet girl I grew up with on Edgelea Drive. She was always smiling and her laugh was definitely unique. She will be sadly missed. My condolences to the family and especially Jack her spouse. RIP Sheree.
