John William Spangler

John William Spangler, 69, of Camby, passed peacefully in the comfort of his own home and with family at his side on Friday, July 19, 2024. John had battled health issues and cancer for over ten years. He has won the battle and is free of all pain. In the first part of his career, he worked in the automotive industry. He enjoyed auto racing and owned his own automotive shop, Spangler Automotive, from 1977-1989. Most recently he was an independent contractor insurance adjustor. Being a flood adjustor took John all across the country where he got to see many interesting places and people.

John enjoyed staying busy. He was a member of the Gordon Pipers (bagpipers), the Murat Shrine, the Southport Moose Lodge, and the Scottish Rite. Additionally, he had served as a member of Perry Township Box 13 Ambulance Support Unit and served as a volunteer firefighter.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. John will be missed but memories will still hang in there. Early claims with John was interesting. The cockroach, we named Elmer, that came to visit us in our motel room every night, dropping our cloths bag and lowering suitcases over the 2nd floor railing to watching the multitude of rats providing us entertainment in New Orleans made our trips enjoyable. Take care John and Rest In Peace.

  2. John and I were roommates at Indiana State. We had another roommate who claimed to be a skier and he convinced us we should go to Colorado skiing for spring break. When the time to go came, Fred ( the other roommate) had a family emergency and couldn’t go. So John and I went anyway. Neither of us knew how to ski but we figured we could figure it out. Needless to say there was a lot of falling. Well, not falling really more like crashing. At the end of the first day we went to bed around 6 as we were completely exhausted from getting up after each of the crashes and there were many. We still had a good time

  3. I’m so sorry to hear of John’s passing. We had such great times at ISI and for many years after. Rest in peace my friend.
