Edna Joyce Stuart, 79, of Camby, went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2025, at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville. She was born in Indianapolis on December 8, 1945, to the late Otis and Wanda (Gardner) Yarnell. Joyce graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1964. Joyce’s leadership was profound throughout her life, having taught all ages from infants to elders. She taught for several years at Sanders Elementary School and retired from MSD of Wayne Township in 2016. Joyce’s mentorship continued through her faith as a Sunday school teacher for 40 years. She was a member of Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene and attended Brownsburg Church of the Nazarene.

Though she did not have any of her own, Joyce’s love for children led her to welcome in a special family. She took pride in baking cakes for all 10 grandchildren for their birthdays. Joyce loved butterflies, her flower garden, gospel music, nature, and most importantly, Jesus.

Joyce leaves behind her husband, Thomas Stuart, whom she married on December 12, 1981; sister-in-law, Cheryl Yarnell; nephew, Brad Yarnell; great-niece, Sydney Yarnell (Ashton LaPorte); special daughter, Jazmin Reyes (Salvador); special grandchildren, Christina, Leslie, Nathan, Anderson, Angel, Caleb, Deborah, Josue, Anna, and Noah.

Guestbook

  1. We didn’t talk much, but we knew each other. You will be missed especially by Tom, but the exciting thing about this sadness is. You will be with the Lord and I can’t imagine anything more exciting than this.

  2. I will miss my long time friend, Joyce. I’ll see you on the other side. We will stand by Tom until we are all together again.

  3. In 1965 I was a 15 year old having the privilege of meeting a new 19 year old friend, Joyce Yarnell. All these years later, Joyce remains, in my heart, as one of the kindest most gentle ladies I’ve had the privilege to know. God bless you, Tom, in these days ahead.

  4. Joyce was a great friend and a perfect example of how a Christian should live. We’ll meet you at the Dairy Queen in Heaven on Tom’s birthday.

  5. I went to St. Ann’s school 1st through 3rd. 4th grade I started public school at Sanders. Miss Yarnell made a scared new girl feel safe and welcomed. She will always be remembered. Last time I saw her was at Los Patios on KY Ave. about a year ago. I almost didn’t talk to her, not wanting to disturb her meal, but I did. It was so nice to talk to her. So glad I talked to her.

  6. Joyce was a blessing and a great woman of God! Prayers Tom and family.
Our Condolences from Rev Kevin & Jill Shonkwiler

  7. Joyce was a bright spot in my childhood. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever met and it was a privilege knowing her.

  8. Joyce was a special lady. I enjoyed teaching with her in adult education and seeing her at church activities. Her kindness and sincerity was evident in everything she did. She made this world a better place.

  9. I was in “Miss Yarnell’s” very first 4th grade class. She was an amazing Child of God and will always be remembered. ☮️❤️✝️

  10. Joyce, I will not forget the day that you (a perfect stranger) came up and asked if you could pray on me. Not being very religious myself, I was a little questioning but you said some of the kindest things in your prayer and made me feel truly comforted and loved by someone I didn’t even know. The last couple of years of knowing you, you have brightened so many of my days with your kindness and warmth. I will truly miss you.

  11. So sorry to hear the news Tom. She’s certainly in a better place, but I I know these are tough days for you. I’ll be praying God will be especially close to you.

  12. She always brightened your day with the Smile For Jesus. She always was caring. She will be missed. We had many laughs with the who, what, where, and when game. We made some good ones.
