Lola Vernice Tharp, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt passed away on June 1, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on March 8, 1933 in Beech Grove, Indiana, she was the daughter of Eula V. Burns and Delbert D. Burns, and younger sister to Joyce D. Meyers.
Throughout her life, she was diligent in her role as a mother to her five children: Dolla J. Stevenson, Bonny J. Jones, Judy L. Ripley, William A. Bray Jr., and Dewayne D. Bray. She also loved her part in her nieces’ lives, Cynthia Haverstick and Christie Huff.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Nate, Michele, Daniel, Naomi, Timothy, Hannah, Josh, Leigh, Tiffany, Cody, and Mason, and 21 great-grandchildren. She also has step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Lola was known for her love of the many dogs, cats, birds, a skunk and other kinds of animals that she had as pets. She will also be remembered for her artistic talents, finding joy in sewing, painting, and various crafts. Her hands were a pair of miracles creating not only artful works but also memories that her family will contemplate forever.
She was loved by her family and friends and touched many lives throughout her lifetime.
Lola will be interred with her beloved husband, Jack A. Tharp, in New Albany, Indiana.
