John William Moore
58, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2025. John was born on June 4, 1967, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late John Paul Moore and Marilyn (Blankenship) Moore, who survives.
Talented with his hands and a knack for fixing things, John worked in maintenance for the Crown Plaza Hotel at the airport for 32 years. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed fishing for flatheads, hunting for turkey and deer. Additionally, he enjoyed collecting firearms, bows and arrows and cheering on his favorite NASCAR driver, Alex Bowman. Although he had a competitive streak, John mellowed over the years and he will be remembered as a kind, loving, selfless man, who would often give others the first shot at a turkey or that first tug on a fishing pole to others, so he could enjoy happiness in helping others.
He is survived by his wife, Shelley (Zachary) Wilkey; children Misty (Riley) Hunter, John Michael (Jessica) Moore, Justin Moore, Will Kaufman, Scott (Shylo) Wilkey, Kelsey Wilkey; mother Marilyn Moore; Aunt Lavona; sister Beth (Dave) Klinge; 9 grandchildren and one great- grandchild on the way, who John was excited to meet.
Family and friends will gather in celebration of John’s life on Tuesday, July 8th from 12-2pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, with funeral services beginning at 2:00pm Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow the services in West Newton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made in John’s memory to the National Wild Turkey Foundation, 770 Augusta Road, Edgefield, SC 29824, https://www.nwtf.org/ , or to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, 402 W Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46204, https://www.in.gov/dnr/.
