Philip Forrest Jones, Jr., 90, of Plainfield, passed away on June 26, 2025, at Sugar Grove Senior Living in Plainfield. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on February 24, 1935, to the late Philip Jones, Sr., and Helen (Knudsen) Gammon. Phil graduated from Durham High School in North Carolina in 1953 and later earned his bachelor’s degree in business from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
Phil was a proud American. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1954 and served 4 years before being honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1958.
He married his sweetheart Bonnie Wilson Jones on March 17, 1995, and she preceded him in death in 2012.
Phil attended Plainfield United Methodist Church for several years. He was an avid golfer, loved reading, listening to jazz and R&B music and enjoyed collecting Indian artifacts and knives. No matter what was going on, Phil always had a smile on his face. He will be remembered for his kindness to others and his love for his family.
In addition to his wife, Bonnie, and parents, Phil is preceded in death by his stepfather Robert Gammon and brothers, Terry Jones, Doug Jones, and Jim Gammon.
Survived by his children, Cindy Stine (Roger), Tammy Bugg (Alan), Chris Jones (Kim), Jim Wilson (Caroline), and Andy Wilson (Jen); grandchildren, Curtis Wallace (Kaila), Lauren Hutto (Adam), Ashley Self (Luke), Hannah Siegfried (Brett), David Bugg (Savannah), Taylor Jones, Jaxon Jones, Chase Jones, Emma Wilson, Nate Wilson, Dutch Wilson, and Beck Wilson; great-grandchildren, Allison, Raylee, Rylan, Jordan, Kensley, Ella Joy, Kylee, Anderson, and Warren. Also survived by Patricia Jones, friend and mother of Cindy, Tammy, and Chris.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. The memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Phil’s remains will be interred at Allens Creek Cemetery in Bloomington following the service.
