Chester Eugene Payne, 86, of Mooresville, died at his home with family at his side on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.  He was born to William Bradly Payne and Bessie (Bullack) Payne on March 8, 1939 in Lexington, Kentucky.

He worked for Carter – Lee Lumber Company in Indianapolis for many years until he retired. In his spare time, he enjoyed nearly every trade including working on cars and other outdoor chores such as mowing.  On April 12, 1962, Chester married the love of his life, Jaunita I. Taylor.  She preceded him in passing on November 1, 2020.

He will be deeply missed by his host of loving family including his daughters, Tina (husband, Sheldon) Baker of Indianapolis and Kimberly of Mooresville; brother, Jay (wife, Janice) Payne of Bargersville; grandchildren, Tasha Viles, Ashley Lewis, Ricky (wife, Ariel) Elliott, and Tiffany Baker; great grandchildren, Shelby Curbeaux, Alexis Elliott, Izayah Elliott, and Julius Lewis; and (arriving soon) great great grandchild, Josiah Mayberry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bessie Payne; wife, Jaunita Payne; son, Ricky Payne; and 11 siblings.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, September 15th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. Chester’s Life Celebration® Service will follow beginning at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.  He will be laid to rest in White Lick Cemetery alongside his late wife, Jaunita, following the service.
