Russell Herman Burton

Russell Herman Burton, 84, of Mooresville, died September 25, 2025 at his home with family at his side.  He was born in Clinton, Indiana on October 27, 1940 to the late Russell Burton and Helen L. (Hollingsworth) Burton.

In 1958, he enlisted in the United States Army and would go on to serve over 20 years honorably.  After retirement from the Army, he worked for the prison system serving as a guard at the Plainfield Youth Center and the Rockville Women’s Prison.  He was a member of the Terre Haute Scottish Rite, the Masonic Lodge in Greencastle, the Moose Lodge #1592 in Greencastle, and the Eagles in Mooresville.

On July 14, 1962, he married the love of his life, Linda J. (Boren) Burton.  They had enjoyed over 51 years of marriage when she passed in 2014.  He enjoyed watching westerns and singing karaoke.

He will be deeply missed by many including his daughters, Jennie (husband, Steve) Buchanan of Mooresville and Marla (husband, David) McNeely of Dallas, NC; companion, Mable Lewis of Mooresville; grandchildren, Shawn (husband, Dustin) Gilley, Jason Stowers, Tiffany (husband, Jason) Inglert, John (wife, Hannah) Stowers, Myke Buchanan, Richard Davis, and Russell Davis; 8 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Russell and Helen Burton; wife, Linda Burton; and daughter, Christal Davis.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, September 30^th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville with a Masonic Service to follow at 7:00 pm.  Russell’s Life Celebration® Service will be on Wednesday, October 1^st at 10:00 am at the funeral home.  There will be an hour of visiting prior.  He will be laid to rest with military honors in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Clinton following the committal service at 1:00 pm.
