Paul Eldon Johnson
67, of Mooresville passed away on October 22, 2025, at home, surrounded by his family. Paul was born on September 16, 1958 in Sullivan, Indiana to the late Lewis Edward Johnson and Ruth Marie (Gillon) Cooney.

A lifelong resident of Morgan County, Paul attended Monrovia High School. Raised with a strong work ethic and skilled hands, Paul worked as a machinist for Federal Mogul for 22 years. He was a Jack of All Trades, as he enjoyed tinkering around on various projects, as well as the peace and serenity of country living, feeding the deer right out his front door. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his determination, his close relationship with his siblings and a loving, caring heart that was always willing to help someone in need.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by stepfather Clarence Oliver Cooney, brothers Robert N. Johnson, Steven E. Johnson, and Jim Cooney.

He is survived by his wife, Lora (Shoults) Johnson; children Paul Edward Johnson (Krista), Heather Doty (Robert), Dale Snavely, Jr. (Jackie); brother Mark A. Cooney (Julie); sister Mary Ann Moore (Michael); 12 grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly.

In keeping with his wishes, Paul was cremated and his family will gather to celebrate his life privately.

  2. Unfortunately, I didn’t know you personally, Paul. However, knowing the work-ethic, character and genuineness of your brother Mark and knowing how he feels about you and how much he cherished your friendship and relationship — well, that tells me all I need to know.

  6. Lora I’m so sorry. Prayers for all the family. Worked with Paul and Lora both at Federal Mogul for 23 years. Always kind, funny, good man. RIP Paul.

  7. Paul and his brothers were in my old Scout troop. Sorry to see Robert and Steve are gone. Paul leaves special memories. It is good to see what good man he was. He had a special affinity for animals…and they for him. I chuckled when I saw that he fed deer at his front door. At our camp site in Jackson County..think it was the Spring of 1972, an orphaned goat became a tent mate of Paul or Steve…cannot remember..maybe both. If critters like you it’s a pretty good indicator that people will to. My candle would be a campfire.
