Gerald Ray Kaufman, 77, Camby, passed away peacefully at home on December 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on March 12, 1948, in Indianapolis, to the late Louis Andrew and Grace Evelyn (Hawk) Kaufman. He married Vicky (Lucas) Kaufman on December 24, 1981, and she survives.
Jerry graduated from Ben Davis High School and proudly served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman. Armed with an exceptional work ethic, Jerry enjoyed a career with the Allison Division of General Motors that spanned more than 37 years. He worked as a forklift driver and machine operator, retiring in 2003.
Jerry was a 42-year member of Mt. Gilead Church, where he also enjoyed participating in the men’s Bible Study. He loved motorcycles and the sense of freedom that riding brought. He was an avid NASCAR fan, always loyal to Number 11, Darrell Waltrip. Family memories were created during the many camping trips to Raccoon Lake when the children were younger. Those trips later became beach vacations in Virginia and Florida, where Jerry loved to relax and unwind. Family was everything to Jerry. His dependability, compassion, kindness, patience, and unconditional love were always there to provide stability for his loved ones and to catch them when they needed it.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. Kaufman.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Vicky; children, Jennifer (Robert) Townsend, Jason (Lisa) Kaufman, Candas (Eric) Sutton, Sarina (Brian) Tearman, Jacob Lynch, and Alexis Kaufman; brother, Thomas D. Way to go, Gerry!
…you stopping traffic to let a turtle cross the road, much to the dismay of other drivers.
…I remember you blasting the radio and Tv for Live concerts in the house while growing up.
…I remember when Jason puked on the back of your leg and you LAUGHED!
…I remember how sad you were one day when you came home from work cause you ran into an owl with the van. It landed in the grill of your van. The van was black with gold accents.
…the COUNTLESS times you showed patience and restraint while I was growing up. I tested you more than any other child, of that I’m sure. No matter, the bond I formed with you is strong and you made me a better person for it.
…Most recently I got to the see the beauty of a marital bond in getting old and dying with your person. The love you and mom displayed towards one another was phenomenal. It moved me. Was the most beautiful thing I’ve seen.
