Born in: Indianapolis, Indiana
Resided in: Mooresville, Indiana

Nicholas Alexander Horning, 23, Mooresville, tragically died on January 10, 2026, from injuries sustained in an accident.  Nicholas was born on April 19, 2002, in Indianapolis, to his loving parents, Angel Lane and Mathew J. Horning.

Nicholas grew up in the Martinsville/Monrovia area and attended Monrovia schools.  He graduated from Monrovia High School in 2020.  He was working as a contract employee, primarily at GXO, through EmployGig.  Nicholas was a hard-working young man, and his coworkers were always excited when he was assigned to their departments.

An intelligent person, Nicholas became passionate about languages at an early age.  He was self-taught and quite conversational in German, Russian, Polish, and many other languages.  He was an avid reader, a history buff, and, of course, a gamer.   He could often be found in the kitchen helping his mom cook.  He had a love and appreciation for culture, food, and music from all over the world.  Nicholas has an immense love for nature and animals.  He rescued and raised three kittens from 2 1/2 weeks old.  He always referred to Jasper, Ash, and Luna as his kids.  Nicholas and his younger brother, Colsen, always looked forward to traveling together in the future.

Nicholas Horning will be remembered for his intelligence, generosity, inquisitive nature, and free spirit.  Nicholas was an old soul who loved history and classical music, and always used thoughtful manners.  He was kind-hearted and approached life with a positive attitude, no matter the circumstances.  He was a light in this world that is gone too soon.

Survivors include his parents, Angel Lane and Matthew Horning; sister, Courtney Dewitt; brother, Colsen Horning; niece and nephews, Gideon, Kaden, and Rory; and a large extended family including aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends and family will gather to remember, honor, and celebrate Nicholas’ life at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory.  His Life Celebration® Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m.  The funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, beginning at 1 p.m. Cremation will follow at the Morgan County Crematory in Mooresville.  Memorial contributions may be made to https://www.saveafox.org/. Guestbook

  1. I’m so sorry to hear this news. Nicholas was a great kid. I remember his enthusiasm for learning and his kindness to others in our English class at MMS. My heart breaks for his family and all those who loved him.

  2. I am so sad to hear this news-my heart goes out to Nick’s family. He was a delight to have in my first grade class, and I enjoyed his sense of humor! I know he will be missed immensely-prayers and hugs!

  3. Our condolences to you, Angel, and all your family. We have wonderful memories of Nicholas and all the cousins enjoying Christmas family get-togethers. We send our love.

  4. Nick, the little time we had as kids together will always live in my memories. I wish we met again later in our lives. Fair winds and following seas

  5. I only met Nick as I was visiting my sons, Hunter and Fisher Studer. He went out of his way to introduce himself to me and seemed to be a very well mannered, respectful gentleman. My heart goes out to your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. If you need anything feel free to let me. Hunter and Fisher know even if its to talk. We have learned to live as it is your last day, you never take life for granted as they unexpectedly lost their father as teenagers.

  6. Sorry we couldn’t make it. So very sorry for your loss. Prayers for the Family and his friends.

  7. To Nick’s Loved Ones Family and Friends. Look to our Heavenly Father above for your strength and comfort during this very difficult time, have faith that he will bring you through this sorrow with Love and Comfort. I know there are really no words to say to ease your pain. Nicks light was so bright and great, filled with Love and Compassion, his light will remain here with each and everyone of you always and forever . May your loving and fun memories of Nick never dim. Grief is the last act of Love we can give to those we Loved. Where there is great grief there was great Love. You all have my deepest condolences. God Bless You All.

  8. Nick you were one of the few who understood from an early age that life isn’t about what is taught to you; but what you are willing to learn. Your curious mind and willingness to go beyond the classroom to educate yourself was inspiring. Though I grieve that you were lost too soon I take comfort in knowing you are now with the greatest teacher of them all and have eternity to unlock all the mysteries of the universe. You will be missed. Goodbye for now.

    For Nick’s family,
You are not alone in your grief and I hope you take some small comfort in knowing the community is grieving with you. Death is not the end, I pray the Lord will keep you and comfort you until you meet Nick again in a better place.
