Kermit Emerson, age 101, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at The Waters of Martinsville. He was born on October 31, 1924, in Liberty, Kentucky the son of the late Thomas George and Jennie L. (Monday) Emerson. He married his wife, Ruby (Brown) Emerson, on October 31, 1947, at the Waverly Chapel, Waverly, Indiana.
Kermit was a retired UA Plumber/Steamfitter and enjoyed playing music with friends and attended New Life Baptist Church. He was a veteran and served his country in WWII in the European Theatre as an artilleryman with the 9th Army, 207th Field Artillery Battalion Service Supply Division, United States Army, in Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe.
Kermit is survived by his daughter, Brenda Pafford (Thomas), son, Michael J. Emerson; ten grandchildren Valerie Messer (Darin), Shanna Groznik (Peter), Ashley Jung (Samuel), Michael R. Emerson, Bradley Emerson (Janine), Bruce McCarty, Lisa White, Kristina Thomas (Barry), Rebekah Stritch (Daniel), Zachary Wideman (Amber); eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 52 years Ruby Emerson; daughter, Barbara Wideman; daughter-in-law, Charlene (Alexander) Emerson; and12 brothers and sisters.
A private graveside Military Honor Service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on December 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Military Honors were provided by the Greenwood American Legion Honor Guard Post 252 and Active-Duty Soldiers preformed the Military Funeral Flag presentation and ceremonial folding of the flag.
Pallbearers were Thomas Pafford, Darin Messer, Garrett Messer, Cole Messer, Peter Groznik and Samuel Jung.
Kermit was laid to rest beside his wife, Ruby, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greenwood, Indiana.
