Jimmy Campbell, 89, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026.
Jimmy was born on March 14, 1937, in Hazard, Kentucky, to the late Pole and Ezella (Williams) Campbell. He graduated from M.C. Napier High School and spent a short time working in Chicago before eventually settling in Mooresville. Despite living in Indiana most of his adult life, Jimmy was a Kentuckian at heart and felt most at home in the hollows of Second Creek, Bonnyman, Kentucky. He was proud of his Appalachian heritage.
In the mid-1960s, Jimmy began his career with Greyhound Bus Lines. After retiring, he wasn’t one to sit still for long—he stayed busy working at Mann Village Apartments, where he became a “jack of all trades,” always ready to fix just about anything. Jimmy also served in the U.S. Army as a medic.
Jimmy was married to Maude (Sumner) Campbell, and together they raised two daughters, Crystal and Sara. Although they later divorced, Jimmy and Maude remained lifelong friends—a testament to the respect and care they shared.
He had a love for history, especially anything related to Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War, and the state of Kentucky. When he wasn’t reading, you could find him tinkering with something mechanical, enjoying a good meal, spending time with family, listening to gospel hymns, or attending church. Jimmy also had a special gift with rhyming and singing. Whether it was his famed “Chick a Poo song” or a jingle that was somehow created in a moment’s notice, he had a knack for music and song. A lifelong Christian, Jimmy’s faith was an important part of who he was. Despite his condition, on Good Friday, just a few days before his death, Jimmy recalled Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross showing some things one never forgets.
Jimmy will be fondly remembered for his friendly spirit, his quick wit, and his special ability to make people laugh—sometimes while also making them shake their heads.
He is survived by his daughters, Crystal Davis (Kenny) and Sara Pollard (Jesse); grandchildren, Lily Snodgrass (Nick), Gage Bates (Madison Clark), Grace Norris (Luke), and Ella Davis; one great-grandchild, Charlotte Snodgrass; and his brother, Arlie Campbell. He is also survived by his former wife and dear friend, Maude Campbell, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Friends and family will gather on Saturday, April 11th, at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. The showing will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Curt White officiating. Burial will follow at White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville.
