Sarah Jane Remster, 74, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of June 12, 2026. She was born on May 12, 1952, in Washington, Indiana, to the late Ralph and Genive (Fisher) Kifer. On May 25, 1990, she married Steve Remster, who survives.
Sarah graduated from Fort Branch High School in 1970, where she was a cheerleader, and continued her education at Murray State University. Her love for children led her to work for several years at Children’s Park Preschool and later as a bus aide for the Mooresville School Corporation. Above all, however, Sarah treasured her roles as a wife, mother, Nana, and Great-Nana.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, Sarah and Steve created countless cherished memories while camping and boating with their family. They enjoyed visiting campgrounds throughout Indiana and spending time on the water at Dale Hollow. Sarah was also active and athletic. One of her favorite places was the trails of Pioneer Park, where she enjoyed walking her beloved dog, Sammie. Through the years, she formed many friendships at the park, and it remained a special place for her to enjoy nature and the outdoors. Sarah took great pride in her home and yard, finding satisfaction in keeping them beautiful—especially while mowing the lawn.
Sarah will be remembered for her feisty spirit, spunky personality, and unwavering devotion to her family. The unconditional love she shared and the pride she felt for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild knew no bounds.
She was preceded in death by her step-daughter, Cristi Remster Lewis.
Sarah is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Steve Remster; children, Bryan (Robyn) Hughes, Amy (Bryant) Hoffer, and Michael (Amber) Hughes; step-son, Trevor (Angela) Remster, sister, Nancy Kifer; grandchildren, Macy (Austin) Lane, Makenzie (Parker) Pierce, Haley and Ella Hughes, Coleman and Dylan Hoffer, and Hudson and Griffin Hughes; and great-grandson, Harvey Lane.
A private graveside service will be held at White Lick Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to remember, honor, and celebrate Sarah’s life on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pioneer Park, Shelter 3. Memorial contributions may be made to the Morgan County Humane Society.

I do not recall meeting Sarah but Steve was one of my idols as a young boy playing basketball. I’m sure Sarah was a wonderful family person and awesome wife. I send my best to Steve and the family in this difficult time.
