Deborah Lynn ” Debbi ” Sweet, 76, of Mooresville, passed away on August 24, 2026, just one day after celebrating her 76th birthday with all of her family. She was born in Greencastle, Indiana on August 23, 1950, to Wilma and Jimmy Poe.
Debbi graduated from Mooresville High School in 1968. She spent the majority of her life in Mooresville, where she made her home on the farm and built a life centered around family, hard work, and caring for others. She loved the peace and simplicity of quiet farm life.
Anyone who knew Debbi knew that she was quite possibly the most independent and strong-willed woman they had ever met. Although her last name was Sweet, there were certainly times when she could be the exact opposite—and those who knew and loved her wouldn’t have had her any other way. She was stubborn, outspoken, fiercely independent, and never afraid to tell you exactly what she thought. But beneath that tough exterior was a woman with an enormous heart who loved fiercely and would do anything for the people she loved.
For many years, Debbi worked as a hairdresser throughout the Mooresville community. After working in several local beauty shops, she fulfilled a longtime dream when she opened her own little beauty shop inside her home. Whether she was giving one of her longtime clients a shampoo and set, a haircut, or simply providing a place to sit, talk, and feel cared for, doing hair was much more than a job to Debbi. She always had cookies and coffee ready for them and she provided those services well past her psychical capabilities to do so.
Debbi also had a love for dance instruction. This included disco, belly dancing and country line dancing and spent many years teaching others as their instructor. She also had a love for horses and horseback riding.
At home, Debbi was happiest when she was busy. She loved cooking and baking, sewing, painting, planting flowers, working in her garden, and taking care of her yard. She could often be found on the farm riding around on her lawnmower.
But of all the things Debbi loved throughout her life, nothing made her happier than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her greatest joy, and she loved them more than words could adequately describe. She was immensely proud of each of them—not only for what they accomplished, but simply for the people they became. Their accomplishments became her accomplishments, their happiness made her happy. Of all the titles she held during her 76 years, being Nana was undoubtedly one of the ones she treasured most.
Debbi was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma Poe and Jimmy Poe, her daughter, Dawn Adams, her nephew Chad Fishero, and brother in law Don Zimmerman.
She is survived by her daughter , DeeDee (Jeff Taylor) ; her sister, Nila Zimmerman of Mooresville; her granddaughters, Natasha Brooke Voegeli (Ethan Voegeli) , Brittany Edwards (Eric Edwards) , Ashley Taylor (Andy Lundy) , Amy Taylor, Jack Adams Jr, Blaine Bishop, Christine Dickerson and her beloved great-grandchildren, Deric and Zach Foxworthy, Kane and Connor Voegeli, Mariyah Edwards, Brayleigh Edwards, Cameron Edwards, Dixie Rae Alford, great nieces Madison Kendall, Macy Fishero, Mallory Fishero, several additional great-grandchildren, and son in law Jack Adams.
Debbi’s life cannot simply be measured by the years she lived, but by the people she loved, cared for, taught, fed, encouraged, and welcomed into her life. She was strong when others needed strength, fiercely protective of the people she loved, and unapologetically herself until the very end.
Debbi leaves behind a family who loved her beyond measure and a lifetime of stories that will continue to be told, laughed about, and treasured for generations. The world will be a little quieter without her opinions, a little less colorful without her love and certainly a little less interesting without her stubborn streak.
For a woman whose last name was Sweet, she was truly one of a kind—and those fortunate enough to really know her knew just how sweet she was where it mattered most.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, August 31, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm with Mike Linville, Sr. officiating.

So sorry for your loss.
Debbie was a wonderful warm person. She loved her clients. She did my mother’s hair Elizabeth, every week for years. Mother and other women called golden girls. Looked forward to going there visiting each other and having coffee and cookies. She did my hair several times time. He grew up with my sister Rosemary. Rest in peace Debbie.
She was loved very much by family n friends, sorry for your loss, may you all find peace in knowing she’s waiting in Heaven w God n watching over you all til the ou meet again at the pearly gates. Love n peayers
