Resided in: Mooresville, Indiana

Boyd C. Head, 88, a cornerstone of the Mooresville community, a respected bank executive, and a dedicated civic leader, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026.

Boyd’s story began on October 16, 1937, in Indianapolis, born to the late Paul A. Head and Rita Virginia (Boyd) Head. He grew up with a natural drive to excel, graduating from Mooresville High School in 1955. There, he wasn’t just an honor student—he was a standout athlete, lighting up both the basketball court and the baseball diamond. He carried that team spirit to Hanover College, graduating in 1960, where he formed lifelong friendships as a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.  Boyd married the love of his life, Marilyn (Mills) on May 4, 1963.

In 1961, Boyd found his professional calling at Mooresville Federal Savings. Over decades of dedicated service, he rose through the ranks, beginning as a teller, to become its President & CEO, guiding the institution until its merger with First Indiana Bank. He continued to lead as the Chairman of the Advisory Board of First Indiana Bank until his retirement in January of 2000, and lent his sharp financial mind to the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis for several years. To Boyd, banking wasn’t just about numbers; it was about helping his neighbors build lives.  Boyd served on the Board of Directors of Hill Water Corporation from April 1996-March 2018.

His love for Mooresville shone through his tireless civic work. He was a familiar face and a helping hand in the Jaycees, the Mooresville Lions Club, the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce, and the Elks Club in Plainfield. Guided by his faith, he was a dedicated member of Mt. Gilead Church and a former member of the First Christian Church. His early glory days on the field came full circle in 2016 when he was proudly inducted into the Mooresville High School Athletic Hall of Fame.  Boyd and Marilyn enjoyed many warm winters in Florida, but always looked forward to returning to Mooresville to be close to family and friends.

When he wasn’t working or volunteering, Boyd could almost always be found on the golf course. He was an avid golfer and a passionate fan of all sports. But of all the titles Boyd held—President, Chairman, Hall of Famer—the ones that mattered most to him were Husband, Dad, and Papaw. Above all else, his family was his absolute world.

His legacy of love and leadership lives on through his devoted wife of 63 years, Marilyn; his son, Gary Paul (Annette) Head of Mooresville; his daughter, Deanna Jane (Louis) Head Hurle of Avon; and his sister, Virginia Sue Hammel of Mooresville. He will be deeply missed by his four cherished grandchildren, Rachel, Bryce, Sarah (Alex), and Madison Jane, who brought him immense pride, as well as his nephews, Paul Hammel and Jeff Hammel, and a community that is profoundly better for having known him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, 2 to 5 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory.  The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2026, at the funeral home, with Phil Weidman officiating.  Burial will follow in White Lick Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the Boys & Girls Club of Morgan County.  Visit www.CarlisleBranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.

  7. Boyd, Marilyn and my wife and I attended a banking conference in Los Angeles. We were part of a group of four couples that explored the city together. On the way back to Indiana, we all stopped to stay a few days at Ceasars Palace in Las Vegas. We all had a blast, and have been friends since. Boyd always had a great sense of humor. And Marilyn was always supportive of him!
