Charles Henry Hanson, Jr., 89, of Camby, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well lived.
Charles was born on November 18, 1936, in West Liberty, Kentucky, to the late Charles Hanson, Sr., and Sophia (Lewis) Hanson. A hardworking man with a humble heart and a deep love for the Lord, Charles touched the lives of many through his kindness, generosity, faith, and willingness to help anyone in need.
Charles began working in drywall at the age of 17 and dedicated more than 50 years of his life to the trade. A skilled drywall contractor and true craftsman, he took pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and ability to fix just about anything. In 1993, Charles and his beloved wife, Gloria, opened their own business, Moler Drywall. He continued working until his retirement in 2000.
It was through his drywall work that Charles met the love of his life, Gloria Wilson. The two were united in marriage on October 22, 1993, and were looking forward to celebrating their 33rd wedding anniversary just four days after his passing. Wherever Charles went, Gloria was right beside him. They were rarely seen apart, whether spending time together or working side by side on drywall projects. Their love and companionship were a beautiful testament to the life they built together.
Above all, Charles was a man of God. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he found great joy in praying for others and sharing God’s Word. He was a gifted Bible study teacher who loved encouraging others in their faith. Charles and Gloria were members of West Newton Full Gospel Church, where his love for the Lord and others was evident. He had a servant’s heart, a humble spirit, and a genuine love for people. He would do anything he could to help someone in need, never seeking recognition for his kindness. His faith, prayers, and example of Christian love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Charles was a hard worker through and through, always keeping busy and finding something that needed to be done. A natural handyman, he had a talent for repairing things and making things work. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf and basketball. As the years went by, he took pleasure in watching golf, football, and westerns on television. He also loved fishing, hunting, and tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. Whether working with his hands, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with those he loved, Charles appreciated the simple blessings of everyday life.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Hanson; children, Charles Hanson lll (Jean), Douglas Hanson (Crissy), Deanna Gibson (Mike), Curt Johnson, Dale Johnson (Katie), and Rita Gallagher; sisters, Hazel and Dorothy; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his daughters, Teresa Grimes and Lisa Johnson; and siblings, Mae Seter, Mary Pierce, and Arvin Hanson.
