Albert Dale Griffith

March 31, 1940 ~ October 26, 2026

Born in: Bloomington, Indiana
Resided in: Indianapolis, Indiana

Albert Dale Griffith, age 86, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026. He was a deeply faithful, kind, and gentle man who was truly well loved by everyone who knew him.

Albert was born on March 31, 1940, in Bloomington, Indiana, to the late John Paul Griffith and Hilda Mae (Benson) Griffith. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1958, where he excelled as a gifted athlete in both football and wrestling. Following high school, he attended Indiana University and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves. On June 27, 1958, he married his beloved wife, Shelby Jean (Hobbs) Griffith, sharing a lifetime of devotion and a mutual love for her famous fried chicken.

A dedicated worker, Albert began his career with Griffith Motor Express, the trucking firm founded by his grandfather. In the mid-1970s, he followed a passion and built The Bloomington Par 3 golf course. The course was his absolute pride and joy. After selling the course later, he returned to the transportation industry and retired from Perkins Trucking in 2002.

Albert’s life was anchored securely by his relationship with God. Raised in the First Church of the Nazarene, he was strong in his faith, studied his Bible daily, and led many people to the Lord throughout his lifetime. He remained athletic and active his entire life, finding great happiness in simple outdoor pleasures like daily walks, bike rides, and gathering around bonfires. Above all his achievements, Albert considered his family to be his greatest accomplishment.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Griffith, and his sister, Joanne Fleener.

Albert leaves behind a rich legacy of love and is survived by his devoted wife, Shelby Jean Griffith; his loving children, Douglas Dale Griffith, Gregory Scott (Cassie Parton) Griffith, Stephen Derek Griffith, and Paulette Jeanenne (Lenny Antkowiak) Griffith; his brother, William Griffith; his cherished grandchildren, Bradley Joe Allen, Zachary Dale Griffith, Brittani Griffith, Gregory Scott Griffith II, Jenna Christine Antkowiak, Erika Kratzer, Lisa Antkowiak, Kaylie Mikesell, and Kelsey Ruffo; and several great-grandchildren.

  2. Have only seen Albert once or twice since he moved north from Bloomington. Enjoyed many a fun time occasionally playing some basketball with him and his brother Bill. I wasn’t much of a golfer but did visit him once in a while at his par3 down on N. Walnut. He was a great person to have known and he surely will be missed by his family and close friends. May his soul rest in peace. I will remember him in prayer.
