Adela Rosa "Rose" Warthen

August 20, 1934 ~ May 5, 2023
Adela Rosa “Rose” Warthen, 88, longtime Mooresville resident, entered into Eternal Rest on May 5, 2023. Mrs. Warthen was born August 20, 1934, in Mirando City, Texas, to the late Jose M. and Ramona (Vidaurri) de la Pena. Rose married Carlos “Bud” Warthen on July 23, 1955, and he preceded her in death on November 25, 1998.
In addition to being an active and devoted wife and mother, Rose worked as a cashier at the Mooresville Kroger from 1973-84. She was a 4-H leader and a Brownie and Scout leader when her children were younger. Her family was incredibly important to her, and service to others was a pillar in Rose’s life.
A devout Catholic, Rose was a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the Secular Franciscan Order. She had an incredibly strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin and the Holy Eucharist. In 2000, she and Vi Jerin founded the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at St. Thomas More, and Rose personally attended many hours of prayer in the chapel to ensure that it remained an important and vital piece of the St. Thomas More Parish. She and Vi were awarded the Cardinal Ritter Service Award for their dedication to the chapel. Rose’s memory will be forever cherished by a loving family and many friends.
In addition to her parents and Bud, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jose F. and Jorge H. de la Pena; son-in-law, Raymond Medsker and grandson-in-law, Mark Thompson.
Survivors include her three children, Carla (Charles) Medsker Henderson, Russell (Laura) Warthen, and Thomas (Dawn) Warthen; brother, Javier E. de la Pena; five grandchildren, Joshua (Emily) Medsker, Jessica Thompson, Marcus Warthen, Heather (Brad) Warthen, and Danielle (Jesse) Begle; great grandchildren, Remington Jo, Fiora, Mark, Spencer, and Cohen.
Friends and family will gather to remember, honor, and celebrate Rose’s life on Friday, May 12, 2023, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:15 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2023, in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Thomas More Catholic Church Endowment. Tom and Dawn,

Sorry to hear about Rose. She was a wonderful lady.
Tom – I am so sorry for your loss. I had a lot of lunches with Rose and shared a lot of laughs. One day she looked up at me and decided that I looked more like a “Brian” to her. It didn’t matter that it wasn’t my name for the rest of our time working together she called me “Brian” and, yes, because it was your mom, you know I answered to it! She was a wonderful person to know.
