Charles E. “Pete” Saunders, 86, of Avon, passed away on April 5, 2026, at IU Health West Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Pete was born on December 1, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Charles Ludlow and Hazel (Dodson) Saunders. He graduated from Washington High School in 1958 and went on to attend Butler University, where he played football and baseball under Coach Tony Hinkle.

On August 14, 1960, Pete married the love of his life, Judy (Crum) Saunders. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, faith, and family.

Pete dedicated 32 years of his professional career to Bristol Myers Squibb, where he worked as a sales manager before retiring in 1994. Outside of his career, he was a passionate sports fan who faithfully followed Indiana University, Butler University, the Indiana Pacers, and the Indianapolis Colts. He especially enjoyed attending games and cheering on his favorite teams.

For 20 years, Pete served as the voice announcer for the Ben Davis Giants football games, a role that reflected both his love of sports and his connection to the community.

A man of deep and abiding faith, Pete was a devoted member of Chapel Rock Christian Church and Plainfield Christian Church. He lived out his faith daily through kindness, loyalty, and service to others. Known for his servant’s heart, Pete was a mentor and role model to many.

He found great joy in the outdoors, whether fishing or mushroom hunting. Pete had a special way with children and animals, who were naturally drawn to his warm and gentle spirit.

Above all, Pete loved his family. He cherished every moment spent with them, especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, where he was their biggest supporter.

Pete will be remembered for his kindness, faithfulness, and unwavering love. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Guestbook

  1. We have had the good fortune of being neighbors to Pete and Judy for 18 years. We could not have found better neighbors or friends. It has been a joy to not only know them but family as well. Pete and Judy are truly the embodiment of love, kindness, and selflessness. Their love of the Lord has always shown in everything they do. To say we will miss Pete is an understatement but we take joy in knowing he is with his Lord. We will miss out long summer talks in the driveway, sharing desserts, our fish dinners, and Pete’s good humor. We loved him much. Rest easy and catch a crappie or two for Steve!❤️
