Cynthia (Foster) Brewer

Cynthia (Foster) Brewer, 84, a longtime and active Mooresville resident, passed away on March 5, 2026.  Cynthia was born on August 28, 1941, in Indianapolis, to the late Deryl and Lillian (Gudgel) Foster.  She married the late Byron Larue Brewer on August 16, 1964, and he preceded her in death on November 2, 2021.  Theirs was the first wedding to be held in the former First Christian Church in Columbus, Indiana.

A lifelong learner and educator, Cynthia graduated from Indiana University, earned her master’s degree from Butler University, and later earned an endorsement as a gifted and talented educator from Purdue University.  Cynthia took learning and teaching seriously, and she was an excellent educator.  She worked as a teacher at Neil Armstrong Elementary School, retiring in 1986.

Cynthia was a devoted member of the First Christian Church in Mooresville for more than 60 years, where she served as the first woman elder and also served as Chairwoman of the Board.  Always one to stay active in the community, Cynthia was an active member of Tri Kappa Sorority, having served in various offices through the years.  She was a founding board member of the Community Foundation of Morgan County and served as the Foundation’s interim Executive Director on more than one occasion.  She was also a member of the Bayview Club and the Research Club.  Cynthia will be fondly remembered for her wonderful personality and for the many ways in which she gave of herself to others.

Survivors include her children, Susannah (Bruce) Fout and Greg (Tara) Brewer; grandchildren, Jay (Christina) Fout, Kyle (Hailey Adams) Brewer, and Kevin (Hailey) Brewer; great-grandchildren, Hadi Fout, JJ Brewer, and Ayana Fout.

Cynthia’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be held Monday, March 9, 2025, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville.  The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2025, at the funeral home.  Pastor Glenda Survance will officiate.  The committal service and burial will take place at 1 p.m., Tuesday, in Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus.

  1. Our thoughts and prayers to Cynthia’s family. Mark had Mrs. Brewer at Neal Armstrong and I met Cynthia at First Christian Church. She was so positive and full of joy. Mark and Susan Allison

  2. So very sorry for your loss! Mrs Brewer was my 4th grade teacher at Walnut Grove,her class room was a split class. She had, don’t remember exact amount, but 6 or 7 3rd graders and 6 or 7 4th Graders I was one of the lucky ones she was a great teacher then Walnut Grove closed and Neil Armstrong was opened!

  3. I taught with Cynthia at both Walnut Grove and Neil Armstrong Schools and was in several organizations and church with her. Cynthia was always positive and a delight to work with. She gave much to this community and will be missed.

  4. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to your family. I taught with Cynthia at Neil Armstrong School. She was such a wonderful, cheerful person who always had a smile on her face. She touched the lives of many and will be remembered.

  5. Susannah, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. I remember her from my years at Neil Armstrong. May you find comfort knowing she is at peace.
