Dan Day

Dan Day

70 of Martinsville, unexpectedly passed away at home on August 31, 2024. Dan was born on June 21, 1954 in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late, George Fred Day and Helen Katherine (Livingston) Day.

  1. Hearing of Dans passing is very sad!We were the pack when we lived in Waverly.Dan was always a good soul.We had a lot fun back in the day !Dan, Charlie Marr, Gary McCammack, Donnie Simms, Donna Whitcomb and Subrena Wheeler. Prayers

  2. Uncle Dan was the best! Loved my Aunt Lou through all the years they were together. Kept her safe, carried her as she got more and more weak, and kept his Precious comfortable until the end. I was so glad he got to experience all the road trips w/ his buddies on the Harley and enjoy his remaining years.

  3. You probably don’t know me. So please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Christy Plance. I worked with LouAnn for years. Transferring, feeding, cleaning, and watching her afternoon programs with her. Through her I met Dan. He was so quiet whenever I first met him and it was rare for me to see him. He was either working or walking the fence line with Star, Allie, and Jerry.
After we warmed up, he would come up and talk to the “crazy lady” and I while jingling the coins in his pocket so she would tell him to get lost. He knew it drove her batty.
I grew so close to them feeling like they were family. Being there nearly daily helped. LouAnn’s passing hurt me incredibly. I’ve tried multiple times to drop by. Dan was always out. Although, I almost caught him one day as he pulled out of his driveway on his Harley.
When my kids were younger, I asked if I could come back with them and my camera to take some fall pictures under his beautiful maple out front. He surprised me by pulling his shiny “big tractor” out for a photo prop. He let the kids crawl all over it! He and LouAnn were up in the driveway watching with the biggest smiles!
Another fond memory were their clocks. The grandfather with it’s little mouse and the moving clock that he told me was her 25th anniversary gift. She would giggle and he would just be grinning anytime they caught me cleaning and humming to the tunes.
Otis number #6 was Dan’s walking partner along with the pups. Dan would get so agitated because he was a rubber, knocking posts loose/out. And they always had an Alice, but she was never numbered. Many times he would gather morels on these walks. Not being a native Hoosier, I thought they were a ‘specimen’ in his Hardee’s cup soaking on the counter. I was very relieved whenever LouAnn laughed at my ignorance. Dan made sure to fry them while I was there one day, but I couldn’t bring myself to try them. He got a good laugh and chucked another in his mouth, telling me how pricey and good they are.
My daughter works at Citizen’s Bank in Monrovia and would sometimes help at Eminence. She had to introduce herself the first time, but he remembered after that and we would ask about each other through her. She just found the obituary today and sent it. I am disappointed I missed his celebration of life. What a wonderful pair they were! I’m so honored to have known them!!! And find great comfort knowing Dan is reunited with his Crazy Lady.
If there is a way to stop by the ‘ol’ homestead’, please send me a text. I’d love to walk around one last time. (317)474-1029
