David R. Watson

David R. Watson, 90, lifelong Morgan County resident, passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2023.  Mr. Watson was born June 13, 1932, in Waverly, to the late Royston and Flo (Oliver) Watson.  He married Kay (Bennett) Watson on June 20, 1952, and she survives.

He graduated from Monrovia High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball. He also proudly served in the United States Army.

David was a hardworking man and lived a farmer’s life, finding time to also drive a school bus for the Monrovia School Systems for several years.  He did this in support of his family, including his mother who, with his brother George, they took care of her for the remainder of her life, after his father passed away when he was young.  He was a faithful member of the Monrovia Christian Church.

David spent many years raising horses for his boys to show. He also found time to raise dogs, buy and sell Allis-Chalmers Tractors, and listen to the only two genres of music he had time for, Country and Western.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Jack, James, and Ted Watson.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Kay; sons, Jay Watson (Rori), Roy Watson (Rhonda), and Neal Watson (Melissa); his 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather for his Life Celebration visitation at Carlisle Branson Funeral Services on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 4 – 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at Monrovia Christian Church on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 12 pm. Burial will follow at White Lick Cemetery.
