Donald W. Riggs

May 20, 1937 ~ March 1, 2015
Donald W. Riggs, 77, Martinsville, died peacefully at home March 1, 2015, surrounded by his loved ones. Donald, known as “Red” by many, was born May 20, 1937, in Adolphus, Kentucky, to the late Leo and Zelma (Meador) Riggs. He married Berneice Gibbs on October 7, 1955, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Mike and Mark of Martinsville, Jeff of Camby, daughter Donna of Martinsville; three grandchildren, Dustin of Fishers, David of Camby, Amber of Martinsville. Siblings, Dale, Ralph, Bob, Eldora Key and Judy Ennis, all preceded him in death.
Red worked for Circle B as a metal lather, retiring in 1977. Following retirement, he built homes to sell or rent. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, his favorite driver being Jeff Gordon. He also loved to coon hunt and won many trophies throughout the years. In 2004, health problems prevented him from coon hunting with his many friends and the dogs he loved.
To all that knew “Red”, he was a man of his word and a hard worker until the end. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Friends and family will gather on Friday, March 6, 2015, 4 to 8 p.m., in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor David Ball at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015, in the funeral home. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Waverly. One of our favorite memories of ‘Red’ is of him parking up front, just right of the doors of Kroger store in Mooresville, while he got out and went into the store to grab a few things.
🙂
Red was one the best men with one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever met or known. I miss my DQ days bringing him coffee 🙁
Condolences to the entire Riggs family for the loss of Don. He must have been a great man because he raised a tremendous grandson in Dustin.
