UPDATE: The family of Eleanor Witt will be hosting a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 27, 2021, 2 to 5 pm at Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory.

Eleanor F. Witt, 80, Mooresville, passed away peacefully at home March 27, 2020. Eleanor was born November 20, 1939, in Waverly, to the late Robert DeMott and Lillian (Kidwell) Lane. She married the late Jerry Witt on September 20, 1958, and Jerry preceded her in death on October 8, 2017.

She graduated from Center Grove High School in 1957. Eleanor, known endearingly as Mama to many, began working in the cafeteria at Mooresville High School in 1970 and retired in 2005. She also worked at Poe’s Cafeteria as a cook from 1982-2015. Eleanor was an excellent cook and accomplished baker. Additionally, she always enjoyed a trip to the casino, following Mooresville High School basketball, and cheering on the Indiana Pacers. Above all, she was strongly devoted to her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She could often be found on the sidelines of a grandchild’s sporting event offering her unconditional love and support. She will be fondly remembered by her family and many friends.

In addition to her parents and Jerry, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles DeMott.

Survivors include her children, Kirk Witt, Kevin (Joyce) Witt, Kim Witt; grandchildren, Erica Poe, ElAnn (Josh) Barnes, Jerry (Ciara) Poe, Amanda Witt, Ashley Witt; great grandson, Noah Barnes; son-in-law, Rick Poe; sister-in-law, Carol DeMott; several nieces and nephews, and a grand-dog, Miley.

Due to the current restrictions with funeral gatherings, a private funeral service will be held for immediate family on at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, on Wednesday morning. Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Morgan County Humane Society.   1. What a fun lady. I have no doubt she will be missed by many friends and family. My mom and I have nothing but good memories from such good woman. Her and Kirk have been around several times and given us support when we needed it. Thinking of you Imogene and Joyce Wilcher

  2. Dar and I just visited with El a couple of weeks ago and we had her laughing and had a great visit. El was one of a kind and I loved her as if she was my Mom. Rest easy El as I’m sure we will meet again! Love you! YLH!!!!

  3. Eleanor,(mama) was quite a lady! I loved working with her in the kitchen! Her sugar cookies were the best ever! We had a lot of ornery laughs working side by side at school! She was so good to me and my family! She will be sadly missed by so many. I love you mama! ❤️❤️

  4. El was one of my best friends! I’ve known her for 20yrs and she taught me the love❤️for baking! She always loved picking up my mom and we all go garage sales, shopping and out for lunch! She always loved making the awesome sweet pumpkin rolls for my dad and she always loved to go to DQ for strawberry sundaes! She was a great listener for my venting days too.ߤª she will always be part of my family and will really miss her so much! Well El as you always said “ YOU ARE BETTER PAID” and now and I bet you’re up there laughing with Jerry,Charlie and Nikki. No more suffering, “YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN” as the second thing I can hear you tell me too! Girl , I am really going to miss my El but I’ll always have you in my ❤️heart forever!!   6. Even through labored breath, Eleanor had a special way of living life to the fullest. She shared so many stories that could make you laugh and cry at the same time. She was caring, fun-loving and feisty! I feel so very blessed to have known her and loved her. My deepest sympathies to Kirk and family. Love, Nancy (Vern)

  7. I first remember Eleanor from way back in the days when Jerry & my Dad served on the Mooresville Fire Department together. Being a part of the “fire fighting family”, we spent a lot of time together. Eleanor was a wonderful lady and a great cook. I always enjoyed her cooking and her friendliness. She will be greatly missed. Prayers, hugs and love to the family.

  11. Thinking of you Kirk during this difficult time. I lost my momma 25 years ago this coming September. They taught us everything we know and a part of your heart will be gone forever. But I do know from experience that time will help to heal your broken heart. Only think of the good times and the memories shared with her. She’s with your dad now and in a better place.   12. Some of my best memories of Eleanor are early morning coffee & eating lunch at the long cafeteria table in the hall at school daily !! She always had lots to say & much of it was so funny ߘŠ and helped make the day move along . She was always thoughtful and kind and supportive especially during basketball ߏ€ season as she loved going to the games ! She will truly be missed by her family and her many, many, friends. She put up a long and difficult fight, God Bless her & her family

  13. I remember when I was a little girl Aunt Elanor and Uncle Jerry came and got me so I could spend time with them before they had children. I remember having so much fun with them. They took me to my first drive -in movie. We saw Tom Sawye. I loved spending that time with. They lived in Brooklyn at the time. I will miss her sweet personality.
