Gerald D. “Jerry” Peters
89, of Mooresville passed away on February 17, 2025 at home. Jerry was born on January 6, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Ross and Wiletta (Huddleston) Peters.

Jerry was a 1954 graduate of Paragon High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1954-1958, where was a signaler on an aircraft carrier. After service, Jerry worked as a machinist and later was a ramp agent for American Airlines for 12 years, before retiring in 1999. However, Jerry enjoyed staying busy, so he worked with his good friend Kenny doing lawncare and driving part time for Odessa car auctions in Plainfield.

Additionally, Jerry was passionate about helping others through his work with Al-Anon and Al-Ateen. He worked in the literature department for Al-Anon for several years and then served as an Al-Ateen sponsor for over 15 years, making a significant positive impact on many lives. He enjoyed collecting and building 50’s model cars, playing cards with his family, and walking his beloved Westie, Karma Joy. He and Karma Joy would often visit local nursing homes and the Mooresville Library spreading cheer and comfort to others.

His greatest joy was simply sitting on his back porch with Rebecca listening to the birds chirping and watching the birds gathering at the bird feeders. He will be remembered as a soft spoken, strong willed, hardworking, dedicated, calming, funny, positive and inspiring man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers John L. “Jack” Peters, James “Jim” Peters, Jay Peters and his beloved dog Karma Joy.

He is survived by wife of 63 years, Rebecca (Weaver) Peters, children Deborah Robb, Darin Peters, grandchildren Jennah, Jacee, and great grandchildren Jadyn, Anaston, and Deaken.

The family will gather to celebrate Jerry’s life privately at a later date.
