Harold Lee “JR” Short

April 4, 1967 ~ March 13, 2025

Born in: Indianapolis, Indiana
Resided in: Mooresville, Indiana

Harold Lee Short Jr., known to most as JR, left this earthly life and years of health struggles on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  Just 57 years old, JR was born on April 4, 1967 at the same hospital to Connie Darlene (Crowder) Duncan and the late Harold Lee Short.

He graduated from Ben Davis High School with the class of 1986.  Following graduation, he enlisted and served his country in the United States Navy serving in the Gulf War.  He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1994. On November 2, 1996, JR married the love of his life, Michele Marie Coomler.

Known as “JR the dishman”, he was a proud small business owner that specialized in the installation of satellite tv service for DIRECTV and Dish Network.  He sold his business and then later retired from Next Solutions.  He was a member of the VFW in Mooresville and a member of Life Line Baptist Church in Mooresville.

JR was a racing fanatic that enjoyed all forms of racing.  Some of his favorite racing events would include the Indy 500, races at the Indianapolis Speedrome where he owned a race car, and NASCAR races which he favored Dale Earnhardt Jr and Sr. and Tony Stewart.  He also enjoyed other outdoor activities including camping, fishing, kayaking, and football.  Above all, he adored his family and valued the time spent with them to matter the activity.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends including his wife, Michele Short of Mooresville; daughters, Laurin (Cody) Mappes of Martinsville; sons, Dustin (Makayla) Short of Mooresville and Adam (Jayden) Short of Omaha, Nebraska; mother, Connie Duncan of Mooresville; brother, Donnie (Janet) Short of Indianapolis; sisters, Donna Craig, Ruby Zoder, Carolyn Patterson, Judy Simmons, and Phyllis Clark; grandchildren, Caysen, Myla, Caden, and London; and faithful canine, Smoke (named after Tony Stewart).

He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Harold and Dorothy Short.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, March 18th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at New Life Baptist Church, 8020 N. Old State Rd. 67, Mooresville.  JR’s Life Celebration® Service will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 19th at New Life Baptist Church.  There will be an hour of visiting prior to the service.  He will be laid to rest in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hall with military honors.  Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.
